PSA, since I've now seen problems arising from this: As of Sept 2023, GATK no longer makes missing genotypes explicit in VCFs (i.e. "./." as in the VCF spec). Missing genotypes are instead coded as "0/0" with a DP=0 format field. See attached for examples.

Very sad news for science and Canada in in particular. One could not go through grad school in EEB in Canada and not somehow be influenced by #LouBernatchez. My condolences to those near him.
Today we lost @LouBernatchez, he was an amazing scientist, a generous and lovely person. To me, he was a mentor and a friend, I owe him much. We will deeply miss him.
