Prior to any votes being counted Brazil Judge Alexandre de Moraes had already prepared an order to seize Bolsonaro's passports and bar him from leaving the country despite not having been charged with a crime.
What is occurring in Brazil is what happens when you allow corruption to penetrate your most fundamental institutions.
A democratic system cannot function with a corrupted judiciary and once you lose your judiciary, there is no going back.
Brazil should be a warning to all.
Brazilian authorities and media are trying to find out where Flavio Bolsonaro is.
Brazil's notorious authoritarian Judge Alexandre de Moraes -- before the votes were counted -- already had an order prepared to seize Bolsonaro's passports and bar him from leaving the country even though **he's been charged with no crime** (there are various pending financial investigations). Moraes signed the order barring Bolsonaro from leaving Brazil SEVEN MINUTES after Lula was declared the winner on Sunday night.
A media outlet in Argentina this morning reported that Bolsonaro entered Argentina to fly to the US. His friends and allies deny this, but Flavio could easily just appear in Brazil or even by video and has not done so. Argentina is being sketchy, evasive and somewhat uncooperative with Brazil's federal police (Lula and Milei are obviously not allies).
Whatever else is true, it is not exactly a sign of a healthy, normal or functioning democracy when the candidate who narrowly loses a presidential race -- and concedes defeat -- is suddenly barred from leaving the country by a Supreme Court Judge now globally notorious for censoring, imprisoning and otherwise persecuting his critics and opponents of Lula's government. It is also worth noting that Bolsonaro's party dominates the Senate, having run on a vow to impeach Moraes, and this is seen by many as a kind of leverage/hostage ploy by Moraes to cling to power.

Sete minutos.
E quem comanda a caçada?

CRUCIAL FACTS ON THE FLAVIO BOLSONARO MATTER:
It's not just Flavio Bolsonaro who fled Brazil to escape the tyrannical persecution of Alexandre de Moraes and the pro-Lula wing of the Supreme Court. There are dozens of Brazilian exiles who have done the same: dissident journalists, activists, bloggers, and politicians who all fled to avoid certain prison for political opposition.
In most of these cases, Moraes has demanded the extradition of those who fled and whom he wants to imprison back in Brazil. But Moraes' extradition requests have been repeatedly denied by multiple countries and institutions on the grounds that these prosecutions are politically motivated or otherwise corrupted. Among those concluing this: Spain, Italy, INTERPOL, and even the US under Biden.
Just today, Italy refused Brazil's demand to extradite a person named @edutagli, who was once a top aide to Moraes, but then fled to Italy after Moraes accused him of having been my source in a huge leak from Moraes' office that I obtained for reporting I did with @Folha in 2024. That massive leak enabled us to publish roughly 20 articles proving systemic abuses of power by Moraes against his political enemies: exactly the reason so many Brazilians, including Bolsonaro, know they can't get a fair trial in Brazil.
Italy today refused to extradite the person accused of being our source on the grounds that the proceedings would be a farce because Moraes — as he so often does — wants to act as the supposed victim, investigator, and judge, and thus his demand falls well outside of Italy's extradition standards. Again, multiple countries have concluded the same, showing what a farce Brazil's once-respected judicial system has become under the Lula/Moraes regime.
Moraes has overseen a system of political persecution masquerading as criminal justice that has been recognized as a sham by multiple countries that are not exactly Bolsonaro allies. Nobody in their right mind who is a political enemy of Moraes would remain in Brazil once if it is clear that he intends to imprison you, since he has proven that guilt is a foregone conclusion and he operates with no legal or constitutional limits of any kind.
That is why asylum under international law exists: to protect those who cannot obtain justice in their own country because the justice system has been corrupted and commandeered for political persecution. Many people, such as Julian Assange, have needed that protection (which Lula cheered). Now people need it from Moraes in Brazil. That is sadly one of the main legacies of both Lula and Moraes over the last six years.

🚨🇧🇷 CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? A Lula ally stood up in Congress and casually said the Federal Police is about to ARREST a lot of Bolsonaro supporters
Jilmar Tatto told the Chamber he has direct information from the PF that “a lot more people will be arrested” and that the agency already has everything it needs.
He repeated the line while pushing for Jair Bolsonaro to leave house arrest and go back to a regular cell.
And some have the nerve to question why Flávio had to flee the country to be safe? REALLY?!

🚨 BREAKING NEWS - The United States, Argentina, Italy, Spain, Poland, England, and Japan are no longer accepting requests originating from the Brazilian Supreme Court (STF).
An excessive number of extradition requests for Brazilian nationals - initiated by Alexandre de Moraes on questionable grounds - has led these countries to conclude that Brazil is a dictatorship engaged in political persecution.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has secured the safe transfer of Flavio Bolsonaro to the United States of America.
Long live Brazil. Flavio can now fight this battle from abroad in the safe hands of the USA.
This is why we need Republicans in power. Democrats would have never allowed Flavio to be safely transferred to the USA.

🇬🇧 Britain has sent THREE of its FOUR nuclear deterrent submarines out to sea at the same time.
And that hasn't happened in more than FIVE YEARS.
At least one Vanguard-class submarine is carrying nuclear-armed Trident ballistic missiles.
The other two are believed to be conducting sea trials or preparing for operations.
The fourth, HMS Victorious, remains in maintenance.
This is an unusual concentration of Britain's most powerful military assets at sea, especially with tensions running high across Europe and the Middle East.

Today is a horrible day for Brazil.
Cuba is already suffering from the same cancer and it’s been suffering for almost 70 years, and now they’re heading down that exact path again.
The man who just ruined the election was a close friend of Fidel Castro so you can imagine what kind of disgusting human being he is.
He was already president once, and his people already suffered under him. Now they’re about to go through it all over again.
Communism is just the cancer of society. We’ve lived it. We know what comes next.
We’re with you.
🇧🇷 Did you know that in 2018, Brazil’s Supreme Court, following Alexandre de Moraes’s vote, blocked a law requiring electronic voting machines to produce paper records of every vote?
Without a paper trail, an independent physical recount is impossible.
AND IT GETS WORSE: Moraes has also ordered investigations into allegations of election fraud, while Brazil imposes criminal penalties for questioning the election integrity.
So voters cannot physically recount their ballots, and challenging the system can get you into jail.
No paper trail makes election fraud harder to catch and even harder to prove. And when questioning election results can get you investigated, people become afraid to speak up.
How is the public supposed to trust an election it cannot independently recount?

Congratulations to President @LulaOficial on your re-election - a true victory for democracy and progressive values.
I look forward continuing to work together as we create opportunities for people in the UK and Brazil.
🇧🇷 The day after Lula's “win,” a PL state deputy in Santa Catarina promised a plebiscite on whether the South should stay in Brazil. Look at the numbers:
– SP, PR, RS and SC are the whitest states in Brazil and produce almost half of Brazil's GDP.
– São Paulo gets back about R$10 in federal transfers for every R$100 it pays in federal taxes. Paraná, R$35.
– SP and SC have the lowest homicide rates in the country. The national rate is three times higher.
– Flávio won 62.6% in the South. Lula won nationally with 51.8%.
– They pay the bill and get “outvoted” every four years. Maybe it's time to at least talk about it.

🔥WOW… HISTORIC ELON GAME CHANGER IN BRAZIL.
Elon just turned on Starlink Mobile with Vivo the day after Lula’s “win.”
50 million Brazilians can now get signal in dead zones. 7 million phones already connected. First nationwide satellite-to-phone service covering the entire country.
Elon knows EXACTLY what he is doing & is building free speech infrastructure.
“Free speech is the bedrock of democracy… if people don’t know the truth, how can you make an informed vote?” - Elon Musk
They banned X in 2024. Moraes froze Starlink accounts and tried to cut the pipes. Starlink is harder to kill than regular cell towers local ISPs can block X fast… satellite requires forcing the company itself.
Now every compatible Vivo phone has a fallback path through space for messaging and more. Rural areas… Amazon… highways places towers never fully reach.

The Brazilian Supreme Court Judge revered by the Brazilian left (and now the American left for seizing Bolsonaro's passport), Alexandre de Moraes, comes from the extremist "law-and-order" faction of the Brazilian Right as well as its extreme pro-austerity neoliberal pro-banker wing.
Less than a decade ago, when Moraes was nominated to the Supreme Court, the Brazilian left branded him a white supremacist, a fascist and a leader of the right-wing coup government. One of Brazil's leading left-wing politicians (@GuilhermeBoulos) explicitly accused Moraes of having committed the worst crime against humanity that exists: "RACIST GENOCIDE," by deliberately murdering poor black people en masse while he was the Justice Secretary for São Paulo Governor Geraldo Alckmin (who himself spent years being called all the same names by the Brazilian left until Lula picked Alckmin as VP in 2022).
Then -- starting in 2019 -- Moraes began censoring, imprisoning and persecuting Lula's enemies and imprisoning his own critics, and was overnight transformed by the large Brazilian media and the left into the Savior of Brazilian Justice and Democracy. Only on the left can one transform from from *fascist and genocidal racist* to heroic guardian of justice in less than a decade. Also, Moraes' own corruption scandals make everyone else's seem trivial, yet his passport works just fine and he freely travels the world in great wealth that he and his family received from the corrupt billionaire banker responsible for Brazil's worst-ever banking collapse. Enjoy!

The destination is Venezuela and it's a one way ticket
THE LAST 24 HOURS OF BRAZIL'S BOND MARKET CHANGED EVERYTHING. HERE IS THE TIMELINE.
This is not what you're being told.
On Monday, Finance Minister Dario Durigan went on the record with news service Broadcast.
He said: "in the short, medium and long term, we will return to discussing fiscal stability"
THAT SAME DAY:
Brazil's 10-year bond yield jumped from 12.93% to 15.87% in ONE session, and touched 16.04%.
For an American, that's like a 7% mortgage rate turning into 10% in a single day.
Brazil's Treasury announced it CANCELLED the October 27 and October 29 bond auctions and bought back its own bonds.
Durigan promised a higher surplus next year, but gave no number.
The cost to insure Brazil against default jumped 26% in one day.
The Ibovespa fell as much as 17.34% and B3 froze stock trading for 30 minutes, the first time since March 2020.
The dollar jumped 8.21% against the real, its biggest one-day rise since 1999.
That's 15.87% a year to lend to a government whose debt hit 82.9% of Brazil's yearly economy in August.
On top of the 13.75% base rate the central bank already charges.
Here's what nobody is telling you:
UBS, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and Citigroup told clients to buy Brazil after the first round.
The bond market responded by becoming the landlord of Brazil's budget.
That's not fiscal stability. That's a margin call on a whole country.
Durigan says he will send Congress a budget-target bill this year.
Follow me. The day that bill reaches Congress, I'll post Brazil's 10-year yield.
