The biggest crypto hack ever: $6.3B out of Binance, 4x the old record.
The first $2B+ left in ONE transaction. The fee: $0.94.
Binance says no key leaked. So who signed it 50 times?
How it worked:
- Since 2025, an Ethereum wallet can run a smart contract's code, but only if its own key signs off
- The attacker sent 50 pre-signed sign-offs, all from Binance 14's key. One matched, and the wallet started obeying the attacker
- One call named "sweep" moved 167,000 ETH, 1.6B USDT and 61 more tokens
- Binance's first finding: likely a hacked engineer's laptop that reached its internal systems
- ~$3B is frozen, but 195,000 ETH can't be frozen
- Binance says it will cover every loss. Investigators suspect North Korea's Lazarus group (not confirmed)
Ethereum didn't break. The signing worked as intended.

"Hey claude, launder $6B for me, make no mistakes"
Our investigators are observing never-seen-before laundering patterns with the stolen funds from the Binance exploit. Thousands of transactions in a short period suggest that the attackers are using automation to obscure the trail of funds. Rather than simply moving funds onward, they repeatedly circulate them among addresses, often sending funds back to addresses involved earlier in the sequence.

@GoibiboSupport contacted me after my tweet, gave a quote which was 2X the original without any proper explaination (the airfare was the same as original), and asked me for my SCANNED PASSPORT stating it was an internal requirement - not wanting anymore delay I agreed to it.

Replying to @GoibiboSupport
@GoibiboSupport @goibibo I posted a thread detailing how @goibibo has been delaying a simple booking for over a month, and has ghosted me even after agreeing to quotes and taking my information. They contacted me after it, only to do it again!
