Zcash blocks are about to get three times faster @ZcashFoundation released Zebra 7.0.0, the first stable version of its node software to support NU7, the @Zcash network upgrade planned for around November 5. Node operators must upgrade before block 3,543,405 to stay on the main chain. The older 6.4.x version will shut down automatically in the days before the switch. NU7 cuts the time between blocks from 75 seconds to 25, and divides block rewards by three so daily $ZEC issuance stays the same. The upgrade will also take 60% of every block’s transaction fees out of circulation and place them in a reserve, while miners keep the other 40%. Funds still sitting in Sprout, Zcash’s oldest privacy pool, will become unspendable once NU7 goes live.

Demis Hassabis (@demishassabis) says Google was probably wrong to hold back its early LaMDA chatbot before ChatGPT. "The Google Brain side of it had a product, a very early one, it was called LaMDA in those days. And there'd been a conscious decision not to release that, and it was obviously in retrospect probably the wrong decision." "I wasn't involved in that because we were at the time just supposed to be working on research." "Those early language models, they were very interesting, but they were very flawed. Even today's ones, very impressive as they are, have things that we all know when we use the chatbots, they can't do very well. They make mistakes, they hallucinate, and those early ones were doing that a lot." "Google's known for accurate information. That's what Google is for... So I think it's sort of doubly tricky to think about putting out a bot that, you know, 20% of the time gives you the wrong information." "Whereas obviously a start-up, especially someone with someone like Sam leading it, you know, it's like, go for it, you only live once, YOLO it, and it's fine, right?" "So the thing that caught everyone by surprise, I would say, including them, was actually people finding use for even these early language models that, even though they had all of these flaws, you know, people still found, obviously, very creatively, once millions of people use it, oh, you can summarise things, can help with homework." "Do some brainstorming, it didn't matter if it made some errors, right? That weren't to do with information seeking. And these were new use cases that hadn't existed before." - Demis Hassabis, Google DeepMind co-founder, in conversation with Sebastian Mallaby for Intelligence Squared, April 2026

Jensen Huang says chip design is no longer possible without AI. “At night, our AIs are exploring design spaces vast and wide that we would never do ourselves.” “Our chips are so much better because of AI. We can reduce energy use and get higher performance.” “Our software, we can’t write software without AI anymore.” “We use AI to find bugs, figure out what’s wrong with the code, and who’s likely involved.” He wants every company pushing AI hard. “I want every organization and company to use AI very aggressively.” And NVIDIA itself is the target. “I want to turn NVIDIA into one giant AI.”

Jeff Yan: Our Vision Is to Power Global Finance with Consumer-Grade Hardware On October 15, 2026, Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan @chameleon_jeff said on Bloomberg’s Odd Lots podcast @podcasts that his vision is to power the global financial system with consumer-grade hardware rather than massive data centers. He emphasized that running the network should remain affordable, regardless of how many applications are built on it. Nodes currently require 128GB of RAM, which he considers a reasonable balance between hardware requirements and the network’s needs.

Sam Altman has access to every model OpenAI makes and he still works the way he did 20 years ago He still scrolls his inbox hunting for the email that's "least painful" to open. He knows it makes no sense When David Senra asked him why, he gave the most honest answer I've heard about AI adoption: In his words: "there's something in my mind that is encoded that doing this kind of stuff is what it means to work" Look at what "this kind of stuff" is for him: pasting from one messaging app to another, digging through email, working a to-do list Now look at how work is done in your company. Most of the day is the same stuff. Copying, pasting, chasing updates, moving information from one place to another And every person doing it has the same AI he does If the best tools in the world can't break the habit for Altman, handing your team one more tool won't break it either The habit only breaks when the work itself gets redesigned around AI The companies that redesign their work around AI are already pulling ahead.

It’s just more automation. “I don’t see AI as a distinct technology from what has already been happening for a long time.” “You can’t find computers or mobile phones in GDP.” “Everything is so spread out and slowly diffuses.” “With AI, we’re going to see the exact same thing.” “AI is still fundamentally a program.”

Jensen Huang on why cutting China off from Nvidia no longer cuts China off from AI. The usual export-control logic: deny a rival the best chips and it falls behind. But China has stopped waiting for American hardware. Huawei shows how a ban can turn into an economic boost. It creates a home market and teaches local suppliers to get stronger, scale up and start exporting. The fight now is over the whole intelligence stack: chips, talent, energy, infrastructure, models and apps. Treating chip policy like a valve you open and shut is the mistake. Every barrier slows one flow and speeds up another, and over time the risk is a world where American technology is missing from the very systems the US wants to shape. Interested in AI? Follow @AiEvolutio58513 and never fall behind. I track ChatGPT, Claude, and every tool quietly changing how we work and create, then hand you the tested signals.
