Some statistics to start the year: During 2021 Bitcoin consumed 134 TWh in total, which is comparable to the electrical energy consumed by a country like Argentina. Related CO2 emissions were ~64 Mt; enough to negate the entire global net savings from deploying EVs.

Let's discuss the environmental cost of bitcoin. Because despite all the push for sustainable and green investment in the tech sector, there's a giant smoldering Chernobyl sitting at the heart of Silicon Valley which a lot of investors would prefer you remain quiet about. 🧵 (1/)

WTF happened to wages as a share of total income?

Jacob Blake had a warrant for 3rd degree sexual assault. According to Wisconsin law, that's rape, folks. All of this over a rapist. People rioting in the name of a rapist. NBA boycotting in defense of a rapist. But a kid gets killed and these people just shrug. Incredible.

WTF happened to minimum wage in 1971? And why do wages have to keep going up in the first place?

The last person to trust with power is someone who is dying to have it. The best person to wield power is someone who is reluctant to do so, but who will do it for a while as a civic duty. That is why term limits should make it impossible to have a whole career in politics.

Emotions neither prove nor disprove facts. There was a time when any rational adult understood this. But years of dumbed-down education and emphasis on how people “feel” have left too many people unable to see through this media gimmick.

In 2018, white people committed 3,953 murders. That's a rate of 2 per 100,000. A comparable rate for black people would yield 880 murders. There were 4,778.

I agree George Floyd was murdered I agree cops need more accountability (body cams!) I agree the criminal justice system is broken I do not agree that systemic racism is to blame for all these problems According to some, this makes me a bigot, but the stats are on my side...
For every 10,000 black people arrested for violent crime, 3 are killed For every 10,000 white people arrested for violent crime, 4 are killed I'm going to keep tweeting this until someone can explain to me how this is possible if there is truly pervasive racial bias in policing

The clearest evidence that much (all?) of this is being driven purely by emotional reasoning is the speed at which people transitioned from vehemently opposing protests or gathering in crowds at all to vehemently supporting protests and rationalizing massive crowds of rioters.
