What are cryptoasset firms most likely to underestimate when preparing for UK MARC?
For firms already operating under established financial market surveillance requirements, the challenges may look very different from those facing crypto-native businesses.
From data readiness and reporting obligations to social media monitoring and human oversight, implementing effective market abuse controls involves far more than deploying new technology.
In our webinar UK MARC: From Market Abuse Rules to Effective Surveillance, @DelphineForma of @Solidus_Labs asks Nicola Barrett (@B2C2Group), Daniel Taylor (@zumopay) and Andrzej Wieckowski (@TLT_LLP) for their perspectives on the scale of the changes ahead.
Their discussion highlights the operational and regulatory challenges firms need to consider when preparing for the proposed regime.

As digital assets become more closely integrated with financial services, should regulation continue to treat them as a separate category?
@MylesHarrison89, Chief Product Officer at @amina_uk_, argues that crypto and stablecoins should not be viewed as a bolt-on to the existing financial system.
In this extract from a recent CryptoUK webinar, Myles discusses the importance of integrating digital assets into established regulatory frameworks, and the practical challenge of navigating overlapping rules across payments, markets and crypto regulation.
As traditional and digital financial infrastructure converge, regulatory frameworks will need to reflect how those systems increasingly interact in practice.

“I would rather be operating in an environment with stricter policy, but one that is not vague.”
During a recent CryptoUK webinar, Leila Foulon, Chief of Staff at @velocityxyz_, discussed why clearly defined regulation matters for firms seeking to introduce stablecoin technology into financial institutions and large enterprises.
For Leila, regulatory clarity is what helps build trust. A demanding regulatory process is not necessarily the barrier if firms understand the framework they are expected to operate within.
She also highlighted the commercial value of that certainty. For Velocity, operating within a clearly defined regulatory framework is a sales asset and forms an important part of its go-to-market strategy when engaging with institutional clients.

On 4 September, the Financial Conduct Authority (@TheFCA) published CP26/32, Quarterly Consultation Paper No. 53, setting out proposed amendments to its regulatory framework, including transitional deferral arrangements for the UK’s forthcoming cryptoasset regime.
Chapter 4 focuses on proposed deferrals relating to cryptoasset admissions and disclosures, execution venue requirements and execution policies, ahead of the new regime coming into effect on 25 October 2027. These arrangements are intended to support an orderly transition into the regulatory framework, recognising the operational and implementation challenges facing firms.
CryptoUK’s submission, informed by the views and practical experiences of its members, supports targeted transitional arrangements that enable firms to prepare for the new regulatory framework without weakening the obligations that apply from commencement.
Our recommendations seek to provide greater consistency in implementation deadlines, clearer regulatory expectations and an evidence-based approach to addressing specific market-readiness challenges. CryptoUK and its members encourage the FCA to consider these proposals when finalising the transitional arrangements for the UK’s new cryptoasset regulatory regime.

For crypto users, opening a new account or wallet can mean repeating the same KYC process, even when they have already been verified elsewhere.
Reusable identity could reduce that friction. Where a user has already been verified and the relevant risk signals remain low, they may be able to complete a simpler biometric check instead of repeating full document verification.
For users, that means faster onboarding. For crypto firms, it can mean better conversion alongside a more continuous view of risk across accounts, devices and transactions.
In our webinar with @jumio, Reinhard Hochrieser, SVP of Product and Technology, explains how a continuous, connected and contextual approach can support both.
Jumio says around 60% of users in its customer base can avoid repeating full verification in this way, with a 17% increase in verification completion rates.

We’ll look at questions including:
• How can firms distinguish market abuse from legitimate trading activity?
• What surveillance systems and data will firms need?
• How should intermediaries and trading platforms share information?
• What do cross-market and on-chain surveillance requirements mean in practice?
There’ll also be time for audience Q&A, allowing you to put your questions directly to the panel.

In a world of AI and chatbots, the value of human relationships in financial services remains important.
As traditional finance and digital asset payment infrastructure converge, businesses have more ways to move money, from established payment rails to stablecoins and tokenised deposits.
In this extract from a recent CryptoUK webinar, Steve Martin, Head of Accounts at Greengage, explains why human-led relationships have an important role in helping businesses navigate those options, particularly when it comes to cross-border payments.
For many businesses, the priority is straightforward: moving money cost-effectively, efficiently and reliably. Trusted guidance can help them identify the most appropriate route without requiring them to understand every element of the underlying infrastructure.

Today, along with @CryptoUKAssoc, we're publishing our response to the @EU_Commission's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) review. MiCA established a strong foundation for the EU's digital financial future. The next phase should build upon that foundation with targeted refinement. Here's how: bit.ly/4dgDTAV
Thank you to our global members for their input, and special recognition to Steven McWhirter for his considerable contributions to this submission.
🚨 UK warning: fake police calls are hitting people 3–4 times a week. Caller ID shows a genuine police number because it's spoofed.
They know your full name and home address. They're calm, confident, well spoken and sound exactly like officers.
The script: "We're investigating, we've found your financial information, we need to verify some details." Ask for a badge number and they'll give one. But it's fake.
Red flags:
"Don't tell friends or family, it could compromise the operation"
"This call is being recorded" when you push back
Questions about crypto accounts and bank details.
Refuse and it turns sinister. One person was threatened with armed police sent to their home on a hoax report. They had to call 999. Being scam-aware doesn't make you immune. The pressure is real.

AI is making sophisticated fraud easier to create and scale, from synthetic identities to manipulated images and video. That makes fraud increasingly difficult to detect through a single identity check.
In our webinar with @jumio, Reinhard Hochrieser, SVP of Product and Technology, explains why crypto firms increasingly need to connect signals across accounts, devices and interactions to identify patterns that may otherwise remain hidden.

When policymakers, businesses and consumers talk about stablecoins, they may not always be talking about the same thing.
A stablecoin can function as digital money, a regulated financial product, a settlement mechanism or part of financial infrastructure.
In this extract from a recent CryptoUK webinar, Seung Earm, Partner & Co-Founder at Ibex Compliance LLP, explains why understanding that distinction matters.
The function a stablecoin performs can shape the benefits it delivers, the risks it creates and the regulatory expectations that apply.
For an industry working to build greater understanding and trust, clear communication starts with being precise about what the technology is actually being used for.
