But have we ever stopped to think about where our food comes from and the animals behind it? 🐔 Eggs come from hens, living beings who can feel pain, experience fear, and have their own natural behaviours and needs. Yet, in the egg industry, hens may spend their lives in intensive farming systems, where their freedom and well-being can be severely restricted. 🐣 But here's something important to understand: Not every egg is fertilised, so not every egg contains a developing chick. However, the absence of a developing chick doesn't mean there are no animal-welfare concerns associated with egg production. So, if we care about animals, shouldn't we question not just what we eat, but also how it reaches our plates? 🌱 Veganism encourages us to look beyond food labels. Instead of debating whether eggs are vegetarian, we can ask a deeper question: Do we need to use animals for food when plant-based alternatives are available? 💚 Compassion begins when we start questioning our everyday choices. 🐔 Hens are not just egg-producing machines. We exploit animals in almost every possible way. 💔 For food, we take their milk, eggs, and lives. For clothing, we take their wool, feathers, silk, and skin. For entertainment, we confine them, train them, and force them to perform. For experiments, we use their bodies for human purposes. In the name of tradition and religion, we take away their lives and freedom. We control their reproduction, separate families, confine them, and decide when their lives are useful to us and when they are no longer profitable. We call it food, fashion, culture, science, or entertainment. But changing the name doesn't change the reality for the animals experiencing it. Have we ever stopped to ask ourselves: Do we have the right to treat other sentient beings as our property? Animals have their own lives, needs, relationships, and interests. They are not resources placed on this planet for human use. And today, we have alternatives that allow us to eat, dress, and live without making animal exploitation a part of our choices. We don't need to accept exploitation simply because it is traditional, profitable, or socially normal. The problem isn't just how we exploit animals.
