The Bauhaus #chess set by Josef Hartwig is a masterpiece of the #Bauhaus movement and an example of Hartwig's clear ideas about what design should achieve. He reduced the chess pieces to elementary geometric shapes and dispensed with ornaments to create pieces that were both functional and aesthetic. The chess set was also a political statement against war, as Hartwig demilitarized the chess pieces and advocated for peace. His commitment to clarity and simplicity in favor of the recipient is evident in the Bauhaus chess set like in few other utilitarian objects. The game is a masterpiece of the Bauhaus philosophy and continues to inspire designers and artists to this day.
