Day 58 - Build Log
Today was about documenting progress and moving projects closer to completion.
Portfolio Updates: I updated my cybersecurity portfolio to reflect recently completed projects, their documentation, and credentials I’ve earned. I want it to accurately represent my growth and the practical work behind it.
You can check it out through the link on my bio. Feedback and suggestions are very much appreciated!
CyBlack Internship - Sprint 2: I spent the evening with my team wrapping up our Cloud Security task. With the technical work coming together, we’re using the coming week to prepare our deliverables and presentation.
Building technical skills is important, but documenting your work, keeping your portfolio current, and communicating results are equally valuable parts of professional growth.
Still building, documenting, and learning along the way.

Day 57 - Build Log
I completed 2 TryHackMe rooms focused on network reconnaissance and scanning with Nmap.
Nmap: Practised the fundamentals of network scanning, including host discovery, port scanning, and service enumeration.
Further Nmap: Built on those fundamentals by exploring more advanced scanning and enumeration techniques to gather deeper information about target systems. It also included a deep dive into Nmap scripting engine (NSE).
These rooms solidified my knowledge of an important part of penetration testing: understanding the target’s exposed attack surface before moving into vulnerability assessment and exploitation.
Lesson: Effective enumeration involves interpreting the results, identifying potentially interesting services, and using that information to guide the next phase of testing.
Continuing to sharpen my practical network security testing skills, one lab at a time.

Day 61 - Build Log
CyBlack Internship Update: Sprint 2 - Cloud Security
As the Project Manager of my team, I worked on consolidating our individual contributions into a comprehensive Cloud Security Team Report.
Our sprint covered several key areas of Microsoft Azure security:
Identity and Access Management (IAM): Managing identities, permissions, and access controls.
Cloud Network Security: Securing network traffic and access using firewalls, subnets, route tables, and gateways.
Container Security: Exploring security considerations around Azure Container Registry (ACR) and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
Storage Security: Addressing access control and the protection of cloud-stored data.
Monitoring and Logging: Using Microsoft Sentinel to support security monitoring, event analysis, and threat detection.
Since we are done working on the tasks, my responsibility was to bring the team's individual work together, ensuring the report was structured, detailed, and useful to both executive stakeholders and technical teams. This included our findings alongside practical security recommendations.
This responsibility has been sharpening my skill in how to consolidate findings, communicate risks clearly, and recommend actionable improvements which is necessary to turn technical effort into meaningful security insights.
This sprint continues to strengthen both my cloud security knowledge and my experience in project coordination, technical documentation, and team collaboration.

Day 60 - Build Log
Today, I completed the Basic Pentesting room on TryHackMe.
The room gave me practical experience with several stages of a penetration test, including reconnaissance, service enumeration, investigating weak credentials, and exploring potential privilege escalation paths.
One of the tools I used was LinPEAS, a Linux privilege escalation enumeration script that helps identify potential weaknesses and misconfigurations on a Linux system.
Running LinPEAS helped me search for possible privilege escalation points and investigate areas that could warrant further testing.
Lesson: Enumeration doesn't stop after gaining initial access. Understanding the target's configuration and identifying potential privilege escalation paths are important parts of assessing the impact of a compromise.
Another practical milestone in my penetration-testing journey, with more to learn and apply.

Nine Azure security labs later.🙂↔️This cloud Security Sprint taught me something important, Implementing a security control isn't enough. You need to test and verify that it actually works.
I faced challenges and learnt along the way.

Sprint 2 (Cloud security) ✅
9 security controls. All 9 tested & validated.
From restricting access to detecting our own simulated attack, we put our Azure security setup to the test.
Biggest lesson?
Untested protection is just decoration.

Day 65 - Build Log
@Cyblackorg Internship Milestone Update: I just wrapped up Sprint 2: Cloud Security, of my internship at CyBlack, and I'm kicking off Sprint 3 today: The Human Factor in Cybersecurity.
Over the sprint, I worked hands-on in Microsoft Azure to build and test security controls that organizations rely on every day:
Identity & access: created security groups via the portal, PowerShell and Azure CLI, and applied least-privilege RBAC roles
Network security: filtered traffic using NSGs and Application Security Groups (RDP only to management servers, web traffic only to web servers)
Perimeter protection: deployed Azure Firewall with custom routes, FQDN rules and DNS rules to control outbound traffic
Container security: built an image in Azure Container Registry and deployed internal and external services on AKS
Storage security: locked an Azure file share to one subnet using service endpoints
Monitoring & detection: Log Analytics, Data Collection Rules and Microsoft Defender for Servers
Privileged access: Just-in-Time VM access to shrink the attack surface
SIEM/SOAR: Microsoft Sentinel analytics rules, plus a playbook that automatically responds to an incident.
I also served as my team's project coordinator: scheduling and recording meetings, setting up a shared workspace for drafts and screenshots, and compiling the final team report.
Lessons learned: lab guides can be outdated, so troubleshooting is a skill that helped me in this sprint. Security works in layers and never a one size fits all. Finally, clear communication and accountability matter as much as technical skill.
Now I'm looking forward to Sprint 3. Technology is only as strong as the people using it, and the human factor is where a lot of breaches begin.
Thank you to the @Cyblackorg team for this great opportunity. And to my wonderful mentors sir @segoslavia and Miss Sharon for their support and guidance throughout the sprint.

Day 64 - Build Log
Week 1, Task 1 of my Tech Biz Security Internship is done
The task was an introduction to cyber security and ethical hacking. I covered:
- The CIA Triad: Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability
- Black, White and Grey Hat hackers
- The 5 phases of ethical hacking, from Reconnaissance to Covering Tracks
- Penetration testing versus vulnerability assessment
- Career paths in ethical hacking
I also completed the TryHackMe rooms Pentesting Fundamentals and Intro to Offensive Security.
One thing I learned: the difference between a Black Hat and a White Hat is not skill, it is permission. Written authorisation is what makes ethical hacking legal and professional.
Grateful to Tech Biz Security for the structured start. On to Week 1, Task 2.

Day 66 - Build Log
I completed the Pyramid of Pain room on TryHackMe and spent over two hours in my CyBlack Internship team meeting with my mentors and teammates.
TryHackMe: Pyramid of Pain
The room explored how different types of threat indicators vary in the difficulty they create for an adversary when defenders detect and block them.
The pyramid progresses from hash values, IP addresses, and domain names to network and host artifacts, tools, and finally TTPs (Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures).
The key lesson is that detecting a file hash may force an attacker to make a small change, while identifying and disrupting their underlying tactics and techniques can make it much harder for them to continue that operating.
CyBlack Internship: Team and Mentorship Session
During our 2+ hour meeting, our mentors gave us the opportunity to reflect on our internship experience so far, share challenges, identify areas where we need improvement, and then gave us practical directions to make our experience more effective.
We also discussed the current sprint task, clarified its objectives, and began exploring how to approach the work collaboratively as a team.
Lesson: Professional growth improves when we actively seek feedback, recognize our gaps, and work together to address them.
Learning the technical side, stepping-up when given the opportunity to, improving how I work with others, and continuing to build.

Day 54 - Build Log
Today, I spent 2+ hours on a call with my team members at @Cyblackorg Internship, working through and troubleshooting some blockers we encountered in our Cloud Security task.
We had to involve our mentor and admin to shed some light on the challenge. The fix is not yet completely documented so I will hold-on sharing it for now.
Overall, it was a productive session. Sometimes the real learning happens when you have to sit with a problem, test different approaches, troubleshoot together, and figure out what’s actually going wrong and how to workaround/fix it.
Lesson: not every session ends with everything solved immediately, but every blocker teaches you something.
Still building, troubleshooting, and learning along the way.

Day 53 - Build Log
I completed 6 PortSwigger Web Security Academy labs; 5 at the Apprentice level and 1 at the Practitioner level.
The Apprentice labs covered:
SQL injection in a WHERE clause to retrieve hidden data
SQL injection to bypass authentication
Username enumeration through different responses
A simple 2FA bypass
Broken password-reset logic
I also stepped up to the Practitioner level and completed a lab on SQL injection against an Oracle database, where I practiced querying the database type and version.
What I liked about these labs is that they go beyond simply identifying a vulnerability. They force me to understand why the vulnerability exists, how the application behaves, and how different weaknesses can affect authentication and data confidentiality.
Another solid day of sharpening my web application security skills.
