#BREAKING The National Weather Service confirms an EF2 tornado hit southwest Davenport Friday evening. This is the first strong tornado the metro has seen in quite some time.
MONDAY: I’m growing more and more concerned about Monday. The potential is there for dangerous storms for our area. The long-range models have been fairly consistent, which is usually a sign that they have a good lock on this storm placement.
Monday’s system has all the earmarks for what could become an outbreak of dangerous to even violent storms across parts of the Midwest.
- TIMING: Too early to tell. Once we get into the weekend, we will have a handle on this a bit more.
- WHERE: Too early to tell. Right now, it appears that the most significant threat will be centered around Iowa, although the threat will extend into Illinois as well. My concerns are there has been a consistent trend of moving this system a little further east, bringing the greatest risk area into the TV6 viewing area.
- THREATS: This type of setup is conducive for strong, long-tracked and even violent tornadoes. Large hail and damaging winds are also a concern for any supercell storm.
- WHAT TO DO: Why am I talking about this? While we will see some changes in this forecast over the next several days, the consistent trends in models and overall threat potential warrants an early heads up. It is always better to know as far in advance as possible on a potential, so you can begin adjusting your plans, or even creating alternate plans for Monday.
Bottom line, we’ll be keeping a very close eye on Monday. Stay tuned for more information throughout thee weekend.
I am concerned about Wednesday afternoon. I am seeing a continued increase in tornado potential for eastern Iowa and Northern Illinois. This includes the chance for strong, long-track, and potentially violent tornadoes. If we can get the cloud cover and morning storms to linger around, the threat will decrease.
