Took some time to reflect on journalism as a profession. Is it possible to be constructive with what we report and how? Can we stop looking at audiences as just numbers and remember they are people too? #journalism #media #psychology link.medium.com/QW0D0Dnjnvb

Super interesting article. Individuals (often in academia) gaining influence and authority by faking oppression.
Consistently writing some of the most thoughtful and original pieces - @helenlewis this week on "Munchausen's-by-internet", and the odd "power" that presenting as "oppressed"/"a victim" gives people online: theatlantic.com/internationa…

Political drama may be good for journalism but we are facing an accelerating climate crisis where the clock is ticking. I am so tired of this dysfunction, the waste of our time and the frantically myopic he-said-she-said journalism with no distance.

“Right now, we are in desperate need of hope. But hope is not about pretending that everything will be fine. To me, hope is not something that is given to you, it is something you have to earn, to create." Great article on @GretaThunberg & her new book. tinyurl.com/ye24xbdt

More than 500 French journalist have signed a charta on how to improve the reporting on the climate crisis. The charta is detailed, instructive and inspiring. This makes me proud and hopeful.
Replying to @JulienLeBot
We have also translated this charter into English in order to share this initiative with our European colleagues (and the pioneering work of certain networks has helped us!): chartejournalismeecologie.fr… cc @wblau @risj_oxford @ClewNetwork #UrgenceMediaEcologie

Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate says Africa is on the "frontline" of climate change but not on the "front page". African journalists are the ones to change this. @IFRANews has launched an Africa climate reporting website to showcase these stories. #ConstructiveJournalism

I wonder if there’s anyone tracking or investigating news fatigue and news avoidance on the continent. Would be interesting to read those findings. I suspect that like me, a lot of people would rather just opt out of the constant gloom and doom. It’s exhausting.
