OpenRiot v7.9.x -- the OpenBSD desktop you've always imaged. Start a Riot at OpenRiot.org
OpenRiot is a clean, minimal, ridiculously polished i3-based OpenBSD 7.9 setup with fish, Helix, and Polybar — all tuned so things just work. No more config drama, no more obscure package fights, no more “works on Linux” copium.

Crypto Swaps should just change their names to "Hidden Fee Overcharging" to be accurate. No one is surprised at all by Wagyu (or any other swap) secretly taking larger fees than advertised. It's a wide-spread & very real issue in crypto. 👇

I'm pissed at myself for not doubling down on $XMR and trying to balance BTC + ZEC + XMR instead. Maybe we are still early?

"OpenRiot represents a brilliant synthesis of hardcore security and elegant user experience. It proves that a highly robust, mathematically sound operating system does not have to be intimidating or visually archaic."

What an incredible article about OpenRiot.

Sometimes it's the little things that really matter. The new OpenRiot 8.0.2 update substantially reduces RAM and CPU overhead, especially for Firefox. I have 15 open tabs, including @openmarket_xyz with 4 panels and indicators + 4 terminals, Text Editor, and Crush on a T14s ThinkPad!
I'm just going to put this back out there. 👇
Roll dice. Use Glyphriot. Store seed phrase in PLAIN SIGHT with a cryptographically secure glyph. STFU and be sovereign. Use @unstoppablebyhs with Seed Phrase. F*ck hardware wallets.

SHA-256 acts as a cryptographic equalizer. If your dice are slightly biased — say, a "3" appears 18% of the time instead of 16.67% — the raw roll sequence inherits that bias. But SHA-256 is a cryptographic hash: even a tiny bias in the input produces a completely uniform 256-bit output. The avalanche effect ensures that every bit of the hash depends on every bit of the input in a complex, unpredictable way. So even with imperfect dice, the final entropy is indistinguishable from random. You get the security of a fair coin flip without needing perfectly fair dice.
SHA-256 is quantum-resistant. Grover's algorithm can theoretically speed up hash preimage attacks from 2^256 to 2^128 operations, but that's still computationally infeasible. Physical dice are classical systems — quantum computers can't retroactively predict the rolls. The entire Bitcoin ecosystem (BIP-39 checksums, proof-of-work) relies on SHA-256, so if it were broken, we'd have bigger problems than seed generation.

OpenRiot 8.0.3 updates the Signal client and the Monero GUI to the latest versions. It also automatically detects whether there's an OpenBSD patch and asks if you want to install it.
Plus, our Release Notes are the best in the business. 👇

I'm fixated on small details you may not even notice. For example, the first time you install after a 7.9 to 8.0 migration, you get all new package updates (takes ~1 hour). After that, it checks and upgrades are nearly instant.
