On the occasion of 🇨🇾 Independence Day, Permanent Representative @GIoannidesCY hosted a reception jointly with the Ambassador of Cyprus to Belgium 🇧🇪 @AttasSpyros.
We marked the anniversary in the presence of friends, colleagues and compatriots, having concluded a successful Presidency of the Council of the EU. The real legacy of the Presidency is what comes next: using the experience, confidence and capacity, for our common way forward.
Today marks 66 years since the independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
We honour those who fought for its establishment and continue to work for a free, reunited Cyprus, where all Cypriots can live in peace and security.

66 χρόνια ανεξαρτησίας εορτάζουμε σήμερα.
Τιμούμε όλους όσοι συνέβαλαν με τους αγώνες και τις θυσίες τους στη θεμελίωση και στην προστασία της Κυπριακής Δημοκρατίας.
Η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία είναι και θα παραμείνει παρούσα. Με ενεργό συμμετοχή στα διεθνή δρώμενα, με πρωτοβουλίες και ουσιαστικές συνεργασίες, με αξιοπιστία και προβλεψιμότητα για τους εταίρους της.
Ένα Κράτος κυρίαρχο, ισότιμο μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και της διεθνούς κοινότητας.
Παρά τις προκλήσεις και τους κινδύνους η Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία απέδειξε την ανθεκτικότητά της και συνεχίζει τον αγώνα επιβίωσης.
Ο στόχος παραμένει ένας: η απελευθέρωση και επανένωση της πατρίδας μας μέσα από την επίτευξη βιώσιμης και λειτουργικής λύσης του Κυπριακού, που να διασφαλίζει την ασφάλεια και την προοπτική όλων των Κυπρίων.

52 χρόνια από την ολέθρια και αποφράδα ημέρα της τουρκικής εισβολής.
Θλιβερή επέτειος της περιφρονητικής και προκλητικής καταπάτησης της διεθνούς νομιμότητας, των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων και του συνόλου των κανόνων λειτουργίας της διεθνούς κοινότητας.
Μιας διαρκούς καταπάτησης, που πανηγυρίζεται και σήμερα χωρίς ντροπή από τον Τούρκο εισβολέα και κατακτητή. Ο οποίος πιστεύει ότι ο χρόνος και η δύναμη του ισχυρού, θα ξεθωριάσουν τη θύμηση, θα αδρανοποιήσουν το καθήκον μας και θα οδηγήσουν στην αποδοχή των τετελεσμένων.
Τελούν όμως υπό καθεστώς αυταπάτης.
Διότι η μνήμη είναι ζωντανή, όσο η κατοχή αποτελεί καθημερινό και οδυνηρό βίωμα. Διότι μας έχουν κληροδοτήσει οι πρόγονοί μας, οι πεσόντες και οι αγνοούμενοί μας, καθήκον ακλόνητο και χρέος βαρύ και ιστορικά εδραζόμενο.
Χρέος και καθήκον να απαλλαγούμε από τα δεσμά της κατοχής, να απελευθερώσουμε και να επανενώσουμε την Κύπρο μας.
Με απόλυτη και αποκλειστική προσήλωση στα Ψηφίσματα του Συμβουλίου Ασφαλείας του ΟΗΕ. Ως Κράτος Μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και καθοδηγούμενοι από το ευρωπαϊκό κεκτημένο και τις θεμελιώδεις αρχές, τις αξίες και τη νομοθεσία της ΕΕ.
Το «Δεν Ξεχνώ» δεν είναι σύνθημα, αλλά ο τρόπος επιβίωσης μας.
