Today would have been the 94th birthday of the great Stephen Sondheim. What better day to announce that, a year from now, I'll be coming out of sabbatical to conduct @LennyBernstein's Candide at @CurtisInstitute? It'll be a pleasure to return to Philly with such a fun project!

Thank you, @vadimgluzman, for this wonderful appreciation of @LennyBernstein's #Serenade. Performing it with you and @BBCSO was a highlight of my career. "Just think of love..." leonardbernstein.com/news/bl…

For a couple of years now, I’ve known that I need to take a “sabbatical,” to recharge physically, emotionally, & spiritually. It starts now! It’ll be great to relax at home on Cape Cod. Now is the time to take stock of what has been, enjoy what is, & contemplate what is to come.

Tonight is Angelika Kirchschlager’s last performance before retirement! She has truly mastered the role of Mrs. Lovett, getting laughs right and left. I send her tons of love… #OpernhausZürich #SweeneyTodd #StephenSondheim

Thank you, #NewYorkTimes, for honoring one of our truly great #Broadway artists. I am so lucky to be conducting one of Jonathan's great orchestrations just before starting my official "sabbatical!" #OpernhausZürich #SweeneyTodd #StephenSondheim nytimes.com/2024/01/10/theat…

Our 2018 Opernhaus Zürich Sweeney Todd was supposed to be revived in January, 2021. That couldn’t happen! So, 5 years later, Seann & I are making our way to Switzerland for 7 weeks. Come January, I’ll be starting my official career sabbatical! opernhaus.ch/en/spielplan/ca…

Here's every piece of music I have conducted since public performances resumed in Autumn, 2021 -- opera, classical, pops, musicals -- waiting to be re-shelved. Just one problem (see second photo): no space left! Maybe it's time for a cull...

You all brought such enthusiasm, commitment and artistry to ten #PhillyPOPSChristmas concerts under trying circumstances. Audience reaction was off the charts! Thank you for always inspiring me to do my best.

Heartfelt thanks to @ThePhillyPops, #MandyGonzalez, #JordanDonica, the #PhillyPopsFestivalChorus, @PBGCSings, the #StThomasGospelChoir, #PeterRichardConte, #ChuckGill and the wonderful staff of the @KimmelCC!

Just got confirmation: Tonight's #APhillyPOPSChristmas will go ahead! Musicians and administration have made adequate progress in their negotiations.

My fervent wish today is for peace among brothers and sisters so that we may once again make music together from the heart.

Thanks for your kind messages, everyone! Please forgive me if I don’t respond right away. It’s an emotional evening for me, as you can imagine. Most importantly, still to come: Christmas, Singer-Songwriters, Sondheim & Star Wars. Wonderful music! inquirer.com/news/philly-pop…

Brutality, pure and simple. Tragic and unacceptable. Putin must be completely defeated. The West must help Ukraine take back all the stolen land including the eastern provinces and Crimea. theguardian.com/world/2022/o…

Rest in peace, Angela Lansbury, you angel. And consummate professional! We worked together only once, at the 2011 Olivier Awards Ceremony, where she sang “Liaisons.” Watch the look on Steve Sondheim’s face as he adores her! youtube.com/watch?v=0Fa_kn5i…
