The U.S. military recently evacuated a dozen bomber jets from a major British air base after receiving intelligence of an imminent Iranian drone strike, not because the planes could be defended, but because they couldn’t. DC Report’s Tom Cantlon, writing as a thoughtful citizen observer rather than a military expert, uses that moment as the entry point for a broader argument about what the drone era means for American military power  and American expectations. The shift is already well underway. Full article: dcreport.org/2026/10/21/dron…

Ohio’s gubernatorial race has surfaced a question that DC Report’s Terry Schwadron argues runs through every 2026 election: has winning become more important than basic human decency? Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy spent $4 million airing a campaign ad featuring the estranged mother of his opponent, Dr. Amy Acton, who is leading in the race. The mother denounces her own daughter as a liar. What emerged in the aftermath is the backstory: Acton was sexually abused by her stepfather at age 12, abandoned by her mother who sided with the abuser, and has been estranged from her for 50 years. The stepfather went to prison. Ohio’s outgoing Republican Governor Mike DeWine called the ad “deeply troubling” and asked Ramaswamy to pull it. On a bipartisan basis, the political world has called it desperate and reprehensible. Trump strongly defended it and called critics “weak.” Ramaswamy is doubling down. Winter is coming and for millions of Northeast families, it’s going to be the most expensive heating season in memory. Home heating oil has already jumped from roughly $2.50 per gallon last year to $4.63 now, and projections suggest it could cross $6 per gallon by deep winter. Families that heat with oil could pay approximately 50% more than last winter, with average costs topping $2,600 for the season, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association. DC Report’s Terry Schwadron lays out the full picture and it’s a collision of crises. Full story: dcreport.org/2026/10/17/heat…

The Voting Rights Act of 1965, once described by Ronald Reagan as the “crown jewel of American liberties,” has been effectively dismantled by two Supreme Court decisions. That’s the assessment of Kristen Clarke, the NAACP’s newly installed general counsel and former head of the Biden Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. DC Report republishes @The19thNews interview by Amanda Becker with Clarke, who maps out exactly what has been lost and what comes next. Full article: dcreport.org/2026/10/15/voti…

Trump just cut a diesel deal with Russia, the same Russia providing Iran with targeting info to strike U.S. troops. The 300K ton “deal” covers 1.5 days of U.S. diesel use. Analysts say minimal price impact. DC Report: this isn’t an energy policy. It’s a pre-election stunt with dangerous consequences. Full article: dcreport.org/2026/10/12/trum…
