A woman was killed and two other civilians, including an internally displaced person (IDP), were wounded during an afternoon airstrike on Pannilar Village in Ponnagyun Township on October 23.
A junta jet fighter dropped a 500-pound bomb shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, killing a local mother instantly and injuring an elderly woman and a displaced youth.
“The airstrike targeted the area directly in front of the local school,” a female resident of Pannilar Village said. “We had barely heard the aircraft noise before the bomb was dropped. A mother was killed instantly at the scene. An elderly woman and a displaced youth were also wounded.”
The deceased was identified as 46-year-old Daw Hla Chay Tin from Pannilar Village. The injured were identified as 63-year-old Daw Ma Aye Nu and Ko Aung Lin Soe, a displaced youth in his 20s. Both are receiving emergency medical treatment.
On October 5, junta forces dropped bombs on the Saytana Free Clinic at an IDP shelter near Pannilar Village, killing a female volunteer healthcare worker.
With junta forces bombing Pannilar Village twice this month alone and causing repeated civilian deaths and injuries, local residents’ fear of aerial attacks has risen sharply.
“Today's bomb landed right inside the village, which was terrifying,” another Pannilar villager said. “All the residents are overwhelmed with anxiety and fear. People do not even know how or where to live safely anymore.”
In October 2025, a junta airstrike targeting Pannilar Village killed five villagers and displaced persons and injured seven others.

Pro-junta Telegram channels spread recycled footage to blame AA for Sittwe bombing
DMG Newsroom
23 October 2026, Sittwe
Pro-junta propaganda accounts are spreading disinformation using recycled video footage following the October 23 bombing in Sittwe, which reportedly caused severe civilian casualties.
Military-aligned Telegram channels are circulating old video clips to falsely claim that the Arakan Army (AA) launched heavy artillery fire into downtown Sittwe.
Local residents said a military junta Y-12 aircraft dropped bombs on central Sittwe on the morning of October 23, killing at least six civilians, including one Muslim resident, and wounding at least 37 others.
Residents in the affected areas, including Mawleik Ward, Shwe Nga Junction and Kathittaw Ward, are fleeing their homes and relocating to other neighbourhoods across the city.
Throughout the morning of October 23, Y-12 aircraft and reconnaissance drones flew over Sittwe, while the junta's Shwe Min Gan Naval Base fired heavy artillery into surrounding areas outside the city.
Clashes between the military junta and the Arakan Army have intensified to within four miles of the Regional Operations Command (ROC) headquarters in Sittwe, with heavy fighting continuing along multiple fronts.

The military junta launched an airstrike using a jet fighter on Pannilar Village in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, at around 2:00 p.m. on October 23, according to local residents.
A jet fighter dropped a single bomb directly on the village, and civilian casualties are feared, a local man living near Pannilar Village said.
“The junta warplane dropped a bomb on Pannilar Village just moments ago, and plumes of smoke are rising from the site,” he said. “The exact casualty count is not yet known, but since the bomb hit inside the village, there are certainly civilian casualties. We do not dare go inspect the site yet. I will provide further details once the situation becomes clear.”
On October 5, junta airstrikes on Pannilar Village and nearby areas killed civilians and injured others, according to local reports.

Residents say Y-12 aircraft bombing killed six civilians in Sittwe
DMG Newsroom
23 October 2026, Sittwe
Residents said a Y-12 aircraft carried out a bombing raid on crowded areas of junta-controlled Sittwe on the morning of October 23, killing six civilians and injuring up to 30 others, according to preliminary reports.
Local sources told DMG that at around 8:00 a.m., a Y-12 aircraft circled over downtown Sittwe before dropping bombs in at least three densely populated areas.
“The bombs were dropped directly from an aircraft,” a male resident of Sittwe said. “The junta warplane loitered for a moment and then dropped its payload right at the Ywa Min Gyi, Shwe Nga, and Mawleik intersections. Six people, five Arakanese and one Muslim resident, were killed on the spot. Many others were injured. Some bodies were severed and decapitated. It was a horrific sight. That area is the most crowded part of town. The aircraft was circling overhead. It was not a jet fighter; they used a Y-12 aircraft. The aircraft is still flying above us right now.”
The six people reportedly killed included five ethnic Arakanese residents and one Muslim resident. Up to 30 others were reportedly injured.
The reported junta aerial attack has heightened fear among residents of Sittwe.
“As a citizen, I feel deeply heartbroken and outraged by this action,” another resident said. “This is an abhorrent act. The situation in the city is terrifying, and everyone is living in extreme anxiety.”
The injured were taken to Sittwe General Hospital for emergency treatment, according to local sources.
DMG is continuing to investigate the incident and will provide updates as further details emerge.
Fierce fighting is also continuing on nearby Ngapyi Island, which residents reported was targeted by heavy overnight airstrikes from junta aircraft.
