Pelicans' 25th Anniversary Should Also Inspire Some Changes

Jamahl Mosley Hasn't Fixed the Pelicans' Most Costly Issue

Dejounte Murray averaging 17 FGA per game so far, the fourth-highest of his career. No other player is higher than 14.
Zion hasn’t averaged 17 FGA in a season since 2021-22. He’s only topped 16 three times. His career average is 15.5.
Just crazy numbers by the Pels.
Trey Murphy's Breakout vs. Nuggets Offers Optimism Amid Pelicans' Slow Start

There's so many baffling stats and moments from the Pels vs Nugs game
- D Jordan gets start for defensive purposes, plays more than Herb Jones while Murray scores 42
- DEN shoots 79% in restricted area
- 1 rebound from Zion
- Pels 1/17 from 3 in 2H and OT
- out reb 14-8 in 4thq
This is the Pelicans’ second consecutive 0-3 start, and their third in the last six seasons.
The last time the Pelicans opened 0-3 in back to back seasons was 2015-16 and 16-17 under Alvin Gentry.
New Orleans finished a combined 64-100 during that span.

And to be clear, Mosley is not supplied with a cohesive roster.
The main issue is still that there isn't any evidence that Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver can build teams that can succeed in this current era.

Complete and total collapse for the Pelicans.
The Jamahl Mosley Magic blew a 3-1 lead including a 24pt second half lead.
3 blown leads for the Pels to start the season. Were up 23 vs Nuggets.
Just bad play calling and offense.
Tonight’s loss after being up 23 is tied for the third-largest lead blown in franchise history.
The Pelicans gave up a 24-point lead to Memphis in 2023 and a 27-point lead against the Blazers in 2006.
Encouraging first half from Trey Murphy and Dejounte Murray. They combined for 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting. Saddiq Bey w/ 10 off the bench.
The Pelicans have been searching for consistent production from their veterans. Tonight, they’re getting it.
The Pelicans’ offense looked as good as it has all season in the first half against Denver. 65.9% shooting, 10 made threes, and 22 assists on 29 baskets. The ball moved, players made quick decisions, and the shots were there.
Strong start for the Pelicans: 38 first-quarter points, 5-of-9 from three, and 13 combined from Trey Murphy and Saddiq Bey. Balanced offense, quality looks, and the kind of execution New Orleans needs to establish as its standard.
Pelicans In the 4th quarter (rank):

New coach. Same defensive problems?
Pelicans defensive rating:
- Borrego (70 games): 117.1
- Borrego (last 26): 116.8
- Mosley (first 2): 117.4
So far, no improvement.
Are the Pelicans’ guards putting too much pressure on the interior defense?
New Orleans is forcing more turnovers but allowing 59 paint points per game.
Is it scheme, personnel, or both?
