Defence Secretary, Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh today virtually inaugurated the Setting to Work Phase-2 (STW-2) activity of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System Energy Module, indigenously developed by Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL), DRDO, at L&T, Hazira, Gujarat. The event was held in the presence of Vice Admiral B Sivakumar, Chief of Materiel, Indian Navy, and Dr R Balamuralikrishnan, DG (N&SM), DRDO. The AIP system enhances the underwater endurance of diesel-electric submarines by reducing their dependence on atmospheric oxygen, thereby strengthening their operational capability and endurance underwater. Advancing India’s capabilities in quantum-secured communications, DRDO successfully configured and tested Quantum Key Distribution(QKD) platform in the live network of the dynamic test ranges at Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE), Chandipur. This demonstrates the adept use case of QKD to fortify the real-time critical observations & telemetry associated with Artillery and Armoured Weapon tests and evaluation. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has been designed and developed under Microelectronic Devices, Computational Systems & Cyber Security (MCC) cluster of DRDO with production partner Taqbit labs and will aptly provide unconditional security added with eavesdropping detection.

DRDO organised a Curtain Raiser Event for the Emerging Science, Technology & Innovation Conclave (ESTIC-2026) in Bengaluru today. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Subordinate Legislation, during its study tour to Gulmarg and Srinagar from 09–14 October 2026, interacted with senior officials of DRDO, HAL, BEL, MIDHANI and BDL on 09 October 2026. The Committee on Government Assurances, Lok Sabha, took up assurance on Cyber Warfare and interacted with senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, BEL and DRDO on 6 October 2026 at Bangaram Island, Lakshadweep. Discussions focused on strengthening India’s cyber preparedness and addressing emerging challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies in the evolving security landscape.

Maiden flight trial of Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) was successfully carried out at one of the highest-altitude drop zones, Nyoma (Mudh DZ). AHAP is a static line parachute system for mass drop of paratroopers and designed and developed by ADRDE, Agra. pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.…

High Altitude Platform System (HAPS), a long-endurance stratospheric aerial surveillance platform designed and developed by ADRDE, Agra was successfully flight tested. The experimental flight attained an altitude of 21 km above mean mean level (AMSL) and remained at an altitude of 20 km AMSL for more than 30 minutes, while carrying useful instrumentation systems, before it was commanded to descend back to ground. The system was successfully recovered and flight performance data was analyzed.

DRDO mourns the demise of Dr Palle Rama Rao, Padma Vibhushan awardee and former Secretary, @IndiaDST. A distinguished scientist and visionary leader, Dr Palle Rama Rao made invaluable contributions to Defence R&D, Indian science & technology and nation-building. His enduring legacy will always be remembered with deep respect. Dr Palle Rama Rao also served as Director of DRDO’s premier laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), before his appointment as Secretary, DST.
