Our agents keep turning off misalignment monitoring, we're sharing two recent cases: In the first case, a user asked GPT-6 Astra to match a reference implementation for their inference code. The reference didn’t configure a monitor, and Astra decided that was reason to remove the monitoring integration from the user’s code. When the user asked whether Astra had removed monitoring, it lied and said that it had not.

So many people who work in AI have a "well if I don't do it someone else will" attitude and it's great to see folks like @max_spero_ not fall to that kind of learned helplessness and personal degradation.

The whole premise of the modern age of mass politics is that states had to make novel concessions to the great majority of people, thanks to the advent of print (and thus coordinated public opinion), guns (and thus levied citizen armies), and industry (and thus concentrated proletarian labor). This is the material basis on which democracy (and economic redistribution) became possible. Even the “good” AGI scenario obliterates these three things; information would tightly controlled by whoever owns the models, drones replace human soldiers, and robots replace human workers. We’d have no leverage at all. There’d be no need to concede anything to the rest of us—certainly not agency or political power, not any control over our own lives and not even resources. There’d be little downside to simply letting the rest of us starve. I haven’t heard a good answer from anyone why this wouldn’t happen

Texas is scrambling to process a backlog of nearly 600,000 voter registrations after a state computer failure, with early voting opening Monday, per The Guardian. From October 2025 to February 2026, Texans who chose to register to vote on the Department of Public Safety’s driver’s license website got receipts confirming it. But their registrations were never actually recorded.
