The impossibly elegant, swan-necked portrait of a Flavian lady named the 'Fonseca Bust'. Looking behind her tower of curls reveals the complex hairstyle and braids. A patrician woman would have had one or more enslaved ornatices - hairstylists - to maintain it. 1/ 📸 me

The gorgeous #Roman Gemma Augustea, a low-relief cameo engraved gem cut from a double-layered Arabian onyx stone. It dates to the early 1st century AD. The upper level of figures is thought to show Augustus, being crowned by Oikoumene - the personification of the inhabited world.

If @edithmayhall has one hundred fans, I am one of them. If she has one fan, it’s me. If she has zero, I am no longer here. Truly carried my Sappho section of my essay yesterday 😌 #alevels2022 #alevelclassics
