🧵Am struck by how quickly the thermostatic flip in public opinion on tax and spending seems to have happened this Parliament. In 2024, Britons prioritised investing in public services over cutting tax (54% - 30%). Now, that’s flipped: 49% choose tax cuts, 36% public services

Not surprising having read the rest of your thread (nor before tbh, esp re welfare heading the news and local environments degrading despite what feels like a big council tax bill outlay).

And (as so often) a weathy background - though she claims she has no contact with/support from her multinational oil/gas company (Shell) executive father who is an expat in Oman (acc to AI so DYOR, obviously).

@Fox_Claire Over in the real world folk without double glazing have been using window insulation film to conserve heat/keep bills down since forever.

All the unions do is send out member surveys (lost count recently) asking the same questions and start campaigns blurred with guffwang.

Too many lobby journos covering politics (who seem to think they *are* the story). Just breathless gossip-mongers.

@afneil Like @Samfr said (as I understood it anyway) - too many lobby journos and the loss of too many policy journos. Hence a news diet loaded with breathless Westminster gossip and tiktok-y fluff.

Ha! See my replies to @RobertKwolek 's post. @cooopuk are the worst. Been in the news locally for aggressive takeover of neighbouring shops too. So much for 'owned by you, right by you/community' bs. Maybe @createstreets could have a shopfront campaign... theargus.co.uk/news/26548659…

Merton council had an initiative on this. Not sure what came of it/how far it went.

I'm in what's a - 10? - month long (so far) battle via @BrightonHoveCC with @cooopuk in Kemptown over this garish frontage (conservation area). Turns out they didn't have planning permission.

I’ve met quite a few people in education who speak very eloquently. They know pretty words, key phrases & can look you right in the eye with all the confidence known to human kind. However, quite of few are also saying a lot of nothing. It’s superficial & provides nothing useful.

Yes I know that. But why make her say it ten times?

Politicians not addressing the question infuriates me as much as anyone, but banging on (and on) at a question you *know* cannot be answered honestly by a minister is as tedious. You trying to make things worse for Ukraine?
