are you a progressive attorney looking for social justice/civil rights for in north Texas? Good, because I’m hiring.
Chris Dart just celebrated his one year anniversary with the Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center. But before that, on Monday of this week, he handled his 1,000th eviction case for the year. That’s right. One attorney. 1,000 cases. One year.

UPDATE: Court Clerk INDICTED for falsifying documents in our client’s case. After getting no notice of her eviction hearing, it was discovered the notices in the court file were fabricated after the fact to cover up the court’s error. Hopefully we find justice @DallasEAC
Many tenants are forced out through tactics that skirt the legal eviction process – shutting off air conditioning, harassment, and more. #EvictionProcess #tenantadvocacy

“[T]here are a number of judges that are also real estate brokers or landlords themselves. Obviously, they’re not allowed to hear their own cases, but in terms of how they generally interpret the law, that has an impact,” said Jessica Vittorio, @DallasEAC.newrepublic.com/article/1722…

House Bill 2035, which would prohibit local eviction protections, is scheduled for a hearing on Monday, 4/3. If you haven't yet contacted your legislators to oppose this bill, please do it now! You can send a message at this link act.newmode.net/action/north… TY@NTFHC for this tool.
This is a serious problem. Tenants that lose eviction cases in JP courts that appeal get favorable outcomes around 80% of the time. That kind of error rate by JP courts is injustice in action.

Dallas is one of the last in the nation to still have a tenant protection ordinance from the pandemic. I spoke to an attorney with @DallasEAC, and a property owner with LUMA Residential about the balance they say is needed for a future permanent ordinance. spectrumlocalnews.com/tx/dal…

We at DEAC spent our Juneteenth holiday/weekend preventing AN ENTIRE APARTMENT COMPLEX from being evicted.
Every single one of these families are people of color. All living in some of the worst living conditions we've seen, which really says a lot.

Absolutely incredible work by our attorneys. Special shoutout to attorney, Dominic Ribaudo, for pulling two all-nighters drafting, and to our founder, @markmelton99, for visiting the complex and talking to every family.
Our chairman, @markmelton99, will receive the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service’s “Pro Bono Publica Award” in August at the ABA annual meeting in Chicago. law360.com/articles/1498520/…
