Kathleen Ferrier d otd 1953, age 41 - what a loss. Bruno Walter: "She was in art and in life a shining example, and whoever listened to her or met her personally felt enriched and uplifted. By her sublime art and by her loving nature she gave happiness and received happiness."

A very happy 85th to Bob Dylan! Shining wisdom:
“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.”
“Behind every beautiful thing, there's some kind of pain.”
“Don't criticise what you can't understand.”

So very sad at the passing of Dame Felicity Lott - not only a great artist (beloved by Carlos Kleiber, among countless others), but also an adorable, fun-loving, deeply kind-hearted, utterly (sometimes ridiculously!) modest, gloriously warm human being. She will be SO much missed

Liberace b otd 1919. He knew exactly what he was about: "Liberace is a creation...The audiences seemed to enjoy the kind of performance I could give them. They kept coming back... and I kept trying to please them." And truly talented: youtube.com/watch?v=3OTRa2Fe…

Beloved, wonderful Eric Morecambe b otd 100 years ago! So grateful for the joy he gave us.
"I have a memory like an elephant. In fact, elephants often consult me."
"I always take my wife morning tea in my pajamas, but is she grateful? No, she says she'd rather have it in a cup."
