Gary was a gentleman. A credit to his family, his city, his club. As a good friend of his son, Pete, growing up, he made me feel like I was part of the family. Considering everything he achieved - and the status he carried - he was one of the most humble human beings. ❤️🤍

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Rowell. A Sunderland icon and legendary goalscorer. Tomorrow, Wearside will come together and pay tribute to him ahead of a fixture he made his own. Rest in peace, Gary ❤️🤍
