Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think @1ABMedia would become a biotech communications agency with 20 FTEs and an amazing client roster after 9 years.
I’m so proud to run this company and lead our incredible team. And the experiment continues.

Today we’re announcing the $600M Formation Bio Drug Development Accelerator Fund.
@lintaho and I started @FormationBio because we believed the biggest bottleneck in bringing new medicines to patients wasn’t drug discovery, but drug development.
As AI dramatically accelerates discovery, that bottleneck is only becoming more acute. Without the capital and capacity to advance promising drugs through clinical trials, much of that progress won’t translate into medicines for patients.
Our new Fund brings together dedicated capital, drug development expertise, and AI-powered development capabilities to acquire promising drugs and advance them through the clinic.

Wonderful in-depth story here from Bloomberg @business about Beam’s efforts to provide a one-time genetic correction for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (BEAM-302)
Amazingly, author Gary Sernovitz is himself an Alpha-1 patient, who is learning about this genetic disease and the emerging options in development to treat it
I really enjoyed getting to know Gary, who brought so much curiosity and perspective to researching this story
His inspiring conclusion, finding himself recently diagnosed with a genetic condition that now sits at the frontier of a new kind of medicine:
“I find myself in a cohort who worry about our liver and lungs… and who are the ideal pioneers for a mind-boggling medical advance. I suspect many are like me, eager to put our body to the test and accept our unasked-for role in the history of gene editing. We have good luck in our bad luck.”

And now... the job opportunity. STAT is seeking a biotech reporter. In fact, we are hiring for two positions: A pharma reporter (a new position here) and a biotech reporter. I can't remember the last time we had two positions open on the biotech-pharma desk.
This is a great time to join our team. Details for the biotech reporter position below:

A proud moment for City Therapeutics as we ring the Opening Bell @ Nasdaq as $CTY! Thank you to our team, Board, & investors for their commitment to City. We now enter an important new chapter as we pursue our mission to improve patients’ lives through breakthrough RNAi science.
.@CityTx_ is advancing the next generation of RNAi therapeutics with a mission to unlock the technology’s potential to help patients across a wide range of diseases.
That mission reaches a new milestone as [CTY] joins the public markets. Welcome to Nasdaq. #NasdaqListed
Welcome to biotechland, @EstuaryBio!!!
Estuary Biotherapeutics is on a mission to make #ADPKD history through targeted gene therapies designed to address the disease’s underlying genetic cause.
Led by CEO Wayne Sackett and built on landmark discoveries from scientific co-founders Stefan Somlo, MD, and Michael Caplan, MD, PhD, at @YaleMed, we're launching with $103 million to advance our lead programs, EST-201 and EST-101, toward clinical proof of concept.

Base editing and prime editing clinical trial landscape, including today’s GSD type I clinical readout from @BeamTx.
Today, insitro announced a strategic collaboration with @AstraZeneca for the AI-enabled discovery of novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and cardiomyopathies.
insitro will receive $40 million upfront and is eligible for up to approximately $1.46 billion in potential, discovery, development and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties.
Both diseases are defined by the problem the collaboration is built to address. In each case, a single diagnostic label spans patients whose underlying biology differs. The heterogeneity across these diseases has made them difficult to treat, and the condition under which insitro’s machine learning capabilities on human data is most useful.
Under the agreement, insitro will identify causal disease biology in both indications and advance AstraZeneca-nominated targets from discovery through to development candidate; AstraZeneca will lead clinical development, regulatory work, and commercialization.
“Partnering with AstraZeneca allows us to pair our deep biological precision with their deep pharmaceutical expertise and scale with potential for accelerated advancement of novel programs through development and to patients.” — @DaphneKoller, founder and CEO of insitro
Sharon Barr, Executive Vice President and Head of BioPharmaceuticals R&D, AstraZeneca: "Partnering with insitro, we are using AI to identify the biological drivers of disease to support the rapid discovery of high-quality novel molecules, advancing our ambition to deliver the next generation of medicines to patients faster.”

Love this from @gline!
“biotech is a wood chipper that like is built to like ingest souls and shred them. It's just like such a hard business that like someone comes and they're like, oh, but I've built a computer and I'm going to push a button and all of that goes away and it just works. Like that is probably not the way that's going to go.”
If you care about biotech and drug development watch this interview with Matt Gline, the CEO of Roivant, a biotech firm that is now worth $24 billion.
He talks about why he thinks predictions about AI from people like Anthropic’s Dario Amodei are overly optimistic.
“If Dario is right and I'm wrong, and he cures every disease in five years, man, are we all the winners from that outcome,” Gline said.
“I think if you work in this industry, it is very hard not to be skeptical of any of those claims. Because, and I've said this in other settings recently too, biotech is a wood chipper that like is built to like ingest souls and shred them. It's just like such a hard business that like someone comes and they're like, oh, but I've built a computer and I'm going to push a button and all of that goes away and it just works. Like that is probably not the way that's going to go.”

The first patient has been dosed in our Phase 2/3 AWAKEN trial evaluating PP405 in men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA)!
This milestone builds on positive Phase 2a findings, including new hair growth from previously dormant follicles, as PP405 advances into late-stage clinical development.
We’re also on track to initiate a Phase 2 trial evaluating PP405 in women with AGA by the end of 2026.
