The moral high ground is a luxury one can only have when it’s safe enough to waste time on achieving same. When we are under threat, as we are, we can’t waste time on establishing rules because the enemy will never honour them. While we try to achieve perfection, they will never falter or stay their hand because they have no morals. Being nice to them costs lives, they must be destroyed utterly. After that, we can go back to being high and mighty.
