Rest In Peace. Descanse en paz. 🙏🏼
Doña Teresa Torres-Pastrana
Sept. 9, 1932 - Sept. 22, 2023
Together again.
Juntos otra vez. Mami y Papi.
In 2022, MLB celebrated Roberto Clemente Day at CitiField. @Lindor12BC watched the pre-game ceremony and thought about one day being a part of this fraternity.
Now, he is the 2026 winner of the award.
WATCH: In 2025, I asked him about Clemente’s baseball acumen on the field.

Joe Torre will be at Game 1 of the #WorldSeries tonight, just like he was in 1957 and ‘58 when he was there to watch his brother Frank play for the Milwaukee Braves.
Always a great trip down memory lane with the Hall of Famer.

Hello everyone! This is Sandra Brunson, @jalenbrunson1’s mom. Usually, I send my son a text message before every game.
But tonight he gets his championship ring!
So I wrote him this letter. theplayerstribune.com/sandra…

After delivering for the @Pirates all October long, Roberto Clemente provided the decisive hit 55 years ago today.
The Great One’s Game 7 homer made him an easy choice for World Series MVP honors after hitting .414 in the 1971 Fall Classic. ow.ly/7ETY50ZYIhs
SPECIAL THANKS: Donovan Mitchell Sr., NY Mets’ Senior Director of Community, Inclusion and Player Relations for speaking to my students. You are now a honorary “Hayesman.” Check out this post. 👇
Earlier today, Donovan Mitchell Sr., NY Mets’ Senior Director of Community, Inclusion and Player Relations and the father of Donovan Mitchell Jr. (NBA All-Star player for the Cleveland Cavaliers) spoke with Mr. Torres’ Sports/Media class and select members of the Cardinal Hayes varsity basketball team.
He shared his career trajectory from being drafted by the Houston Astros to playing in the minors. Although his dream to one day play in the big leagues didn’t become a reality, the Mets would reach out and he became a coach.
He eventually applied his expertise in a different department for the Mets - player/community relations. Yet, throughout his discussion, Donovan stressed education, how to deal with adversity and embracing teachers/coaches who can direct Hayesmen on the right path.
The students asked excellent questions and in particular wanted to know about his famous son’s journey into the NBA.

In 2003, we met in Puerto Rico at the Roberto Clemente Celebrity Golf/Gala weekend. We still look good. Continued blessings my friend.

I never jump straight into coaching when I visit our minor league clubs.
The first thing I do is watch and listen. I call it collecting coins.
Collecting coins means learning who the players actually are.
Two parents in the house growing up? Just mom? Any mentors? Did they love school or struggle with it? What do they do when it's raining and they're stuck inside?
Because here's what I figured out after a long time in the game: before you can ever coach a man, you have to know a man.
You can have the best practice plan in baseball and lose a player completely because he never felt like you saw him as anything more than a roster spot.
Collect the coins. Know who you've got. Everything you teach lands harder once you've done that work.

RIP: Saddened to hear the passing of former Dodgers’ GM Fred Claire. Over a 6-year period, we became friends.
I asked, “How did you find me?" He replied, “Baseball people find baseball people.” I will miss him dearly. Here’s our Talkin’ 21 episode:

RIP Fred Claire, the legendary Dodgers GM who had such a kind heart. I was blessed to let him know the impact he made on myself and so many people with lengthy text message exchange Saturday after going into hospice at his Pasadena home.

Fred Claire was one of the kindest, most honest executives I ever met in baseball, but in any sport. He was a writer at heart who covered the Dodgers and went on to craft its PR dept and the 1988 WS winners as GM. A cancer survivor, he battled. You will be missed my friend.

OTD in 2006, we mourned the death of the great Buck O’Neil.
20 years later, his spirit is still alive and his legacy plays on at the NLBM!
Today, I’ll share 20 of my favorite Buck photos! Post your fave too and tag me and the @NLBMuseumKC as we remember the SOUL OF BASEBALL!
