Never in my life did I think I'd see working class Americans get down on their knees in worship of elites. He's calling them broke while he's actively destroying their lives, and they're just taking it, laughing at themselves. What an embarrassment it is to be a Republican.

#OtD 27 Oct 1962 during the Cuban missile crisis, 2nd-in-command Vasili Arkhipov of the Soviet submarine B-59 refused his captain's order to launch nuclear torpedos against US warships. This avoided setting off a likely superpower nuclear war stories.workingclasshistory.…

#YourVoiceMatters #JasonArday has been cleared of plagiarism for a fourth time. Why is the media silent about it? After the British trawler Caldew was torpedoed by a German U-boat in 1939, a passing Swedish liner rescued the cat Tawny. Tawny was taken to Sweden but quarantine regulations ordered that he be destroyed. However, staff at the British consulate learned of this order and saved Tawny by covering all the costs of keeping him in quarantine for four months. Tawny became a celebrity, receiving fan mail and several offers of a new home. Eventually, he was released and went on to live a happy life with a horse trainer in Gothenburg. #cat #cats #catlovers

1/5 A @metpoliceuk #Muslim officer gets abused online, including AI images of her in a suicide vest, & @SkyNews presenter Matt Barbet's first question to Mark Rowley is whether officers should develop “a thick skin”? Surely it's the racist abuse that's the problem here?

Happy National Black Cat Day! 🐈‍⬛ Black cats are amazing and, as Welsh folklore tells us, bring good luck to the home: "A black cat, I’ve heard it said, Can charm all ill away, And keep the house wherein she dwells From fever’s deadly sway" #NationalBlackCatDay #BlackCatDay #Wales

Hit a dog with your car and you're legally required to report it. Hit a cat and you're not. MPs are debating whether that should change after more than 189,000 people signed a petition. To most families, their cat is just as much a part of the family as their dog. Surely they deserve the same protection.

Today Israeli authorities barred me and other European elected representatives from entering the West Bank to meet Palestinian students and civil society leaders, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. We knew that by crossing into the occupied Palestinian territories, we risked being detained, interrogated and turned away by Israeli authorities. And that, alas, is exactly what happened. For more than eight hours, we were held, interrogated and made to feel as though we had done something wrong simply by attempting to enter. The simple truth is we had done nothing wrong. We went to show our support for the Palestinian people and highlight the terrible injustice and violence being perpetrated against them. We want to ensure that people back home do not look away from the reality of what is happening. Ultimately, we went to show solidarity. But we left with an even greater determination to speak out. We will not be silenced, and we will not look away. None of us should.

I don’t think I ever believed I’d see a newspaper paragraph like this: President Trump ‘said he would welcome immigrants from Denmark but not from Norway “because ‌I didn’t get the Nobel Prize, so I don’t want anybody from Norway”.’

This is the moment Channel 4 News Foreign Affairs Correspondent Secunder Kermani was charged at by a group of Israeli settlers in the Occupied West Bank. The settlers have laid siege to a Palestinian home, while nearby Israeli soldiers keep watch but do not intervene. Violent attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank have risen dramatically over the past two years, while Israel's government has approved a record number of new settlements.

🧵 Wow - this article is bordering on unhinged! Apparently the BBC is akin to a “North Korean re-education camp” for teaching children about net-zero and covering both the pros AND cons of immigration Join me for a masterclass in cherry-picking and context stripping to brainwash your own readers👍🏻
