The vicious cycle of traditional science (TradSci) is undeniable, and DeSci has the potential to address these challenges at their core. It all starts with funding, which sets the stage for everything. From there, we have two primary avenues: academia and pharma. Academia: The White Knights with Tied Hands Academic researchers often enter the field with the noblest of intentions - driven by a desire to better the world, fueled by curiosity, or motivated by personal experiences. Ideally, they’d pursue groundbreaking topics that genuinely excite them. But here’s the sad reality: TradSci is much like crypto in one unfortunate respect - money flows where hype and prestige go. In academia, prestige is all about publications. The higher the tier of the journal you publish in, the better your chances of securing future grants and funding. Without these, labs can’t survive, nor can they pay for PhDs, post-docs, or even basic research materials. The most ridiculous thing about this: publishing in these journals in incredibly expensive, while readers also have to pay for access to these papers. This also explains why profit margins of prestigious papers are even competing with those of big tech companies. This system forces even brilliant minds to abandon their true passions. Instead, they pursue popular or hyped topics that might not yield meaningful breakthroughs -just because these are more likely to attract funding. Those who resist this system often find themselves in underfunded labs. Over time, their work stalls because they can’t afford essential compounds or materials. I’ve personally witnessed this happen in several labs. Pharma: The Big Bad Wolf On the other side is the pharmaceutical industry, viewed by academia as a necessary evil - or outright villain. Unlike academia, funding isn’t an issue for pharma. Their problem is that money is their sole focus. Pharma prioritizes research with the highest potential for profitability, not necessarily research that helps humanity. In fact, diseases can be more lucrative than cures, as ongoing treatments provide consistent revenue. Even when pharma makes groundbreaking discoveries, the centralized, monopolistic system means they hold all IP rights. This often results in exploitation, with treatments costing millions per patient. While researchers should be rewarded for their work, no system should allow corporations to wring every last cent from terminally ill patients. Ultimately, nearly every issue in TradSci, whether it’s greed or lack of funding, can be traced back to money. How DeSci Can Solve This DeSci offers solutions to these entrenched problems: 1) Transparent Funding: With innovative crypto-based funding mechanisms, researchers can secure resources without compromising their integrity. 2) Decentralized IP: By decentralizing ownership and access to intellectual property, we can ensure fairer distribution of benefits. 3) Reduced Pressure: Peer-to-peer journals and decentralized funding can eliminate the unhealthy obsession with prestige, allowing scientists to pursue meaningful work. 4) Competition for Pharma: Democratized IP and knowledge can introduce much-needed competition, forcing the pharmaceutical industry to adapt. I envision a future where honest researchers are free to explore their deepest curiosities and where pharma faces real pressure from decentralized and democratized alternatives. I envision a future powered by DeSci.

Big shoutout to @DataLakeToken for taking a stand by delisting from CEXs to prioritize long-term growth and health of their company. It’s bold to speak out against the exploitative practices many projects silently endure, where monopolistic exchanges trap projects in wash trading, fund freezes, and other pressures that are even illegal to some extent. Hopefully, we’ll see more projects standing up for healthier standards in the space. This move makes me even more bullish on @infinex_app as the future of fair and transparent distribution of tokens.
