Scrolling. Messaging. Posting. Repeating. For many teenagers, a typical day starts and ends with a screen. But at what point does screen time start affecting 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴? To explore that question, I built an interactive 𝗧𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 & 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱, analyzing behavioral and mental health patterns across 5,000 teenagers. What stood out immediately was how deeply digital habits overlap with daily well-being. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲𝗱: • Average daily social media usage and platform engagement patterns • Average sleep duration and its relationship with screen time • Stress, anxiety, and depression indicators across usage levels • Academic performance and how it correlates with digital habits • Physical activity levels and their connection to mental well-being The most interesting part wasn’t just the averages; it was the relationships between them. To better quantify overall vulnerability, I also designed a 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲, a composite metric that helps identify teenagers showing multiple risk indicators at once. This project explores how modern digital behavior may shape mental health outcomes, and how data can help us better understand the trade-offs of constant connectivity.
