The Production Design of #StarTrekPicard took hundreds of people behind the scenes. When we talk about credits, most of these talented craftspeople will not see their name on the screen. As we move into #EmmyFYC time, let's make sure they are all celebrated @ADG800 @OfficialSDSA
Given how music is made today, it still grinds my gears that The Monkees have never received the recognition they deserve. They sung the songs, played the music. I didn't realize Peter wrote the piano intro. The B-Side is "Going Down" which is another classic. The vocals are off the charts. What modern artist could sing this? youtu.be/v7gvhqKP1pg?is=VaPX…
“What number is this, Chip?”
“7-A!”
This weekend marks the anniversary of “Daydream Believer,” released on October 25, 1967.
Written by John Stewart of the Kingston Trio, and produced by Chip Douglas, it became one of those records that seemed to be an instant hit. Davy sang the lead, I sang harmony, Mike played guitar, Peter played piano, and Chip was there on bass and percussion. Shorty Rogers supplied the orchestral arrangement.
The single became our third No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, holding the top spot for four weeks. It also reached No. 1 in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa, No. 2 in Australia and Norway, No. 4 in Germany and Japan, and No. 5 in the U.K.
Peter came up with that instantly recognizable piano introduction, and the B-side was “Goin’ Down.” It had actually been recorded during the sessions for PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN & JONES LTD., but wound up appearing on THE BIRDS, THE BEES & THE MONKEES instead.
Let's hear it for "Daydream Believer!"

Go. Go now. Don't think, just go. This film questions truth. It asks what is a lie, and what we BELIEVE is the truth, and what we justify as our version of truth. It blurs the lines of documentary and art. When the filmmaker becomes part of the story rather than the storyteller
Such a powerful and brilliant film. Don't read up on it. Just go see it. It transcends the documentary genre, and crosses the line in so many ways. Brilliant and insightful. I know I was just lied to and I know it but I don't know what to feel about it.
Everything and more.
You Can See Everything is the highest rated movie in @letterboxd history, the biggest doc opening in decades, and one of the best reviewed movies of all time.
Expanding to more theaters nationwide this week.

In the words of The Starman: “Rock soldiers come and rock soldiers go, and some hear the drum and some never know." When Ace was on his own he knew. He did it his way.

40 years since making The Color of Money.
I had the privilege as a young artist, to have a general meeting with Paul Newman and separately with Martin Scorsese years before making this film, where they shared some of their wisdom on cinema.
Of course, I’d seen their films, but prior to meeting them for the first time, I set up a personal study course where I would watch their films in sequence from the beginning of their careers, up until that point in time.
After being cast in The Color of Money, I once again studied all of their films in sequence.
Having studied their work, then being able to see firsthand these incredible artists, the towering legends of our field, at work on set, I was able to observe their practical application in every aspect of acting and filmmaking from their point of view.
I will always be grateful for this opportunity and for the generosity that Newman and Scorsese showed me with their knowledge of cinema and insight throughout the entire process.
To Marty, Paul, and the enormously talented cast and crew, it was a pleasure and an honor to be part of this film with you all! I have carried this experience and knowledge with me my entire career.

We mourn the passing of our friend, actor Michael Forest, who left us this week. Born Gerald Michael Charlebois, the man who played Apollo on Star Trek was 97. Michael indulged me by posing for this photo in 2022.
That must have been an insane shoot. Katee is the ultimate pro. We had some harsh conditions on Longmire in the snow, rain and just rough all around settings, and she always showed up and bright not just a top tier performance but a smile for everyone on the crew.
Katee Sackhoff reveals The Mandalorian broke her, she lost all her confidence, didn’t work for three years, and screamed at her manager for telling her it was “easy”
“I lost all of my confidence after Mandalorian… Bo-Katan is nowhere near who I am as a human being. Her life, what she wants, like I didn’t understand her… I never felt her in my stomach. I never identified with her. I didn’t know how to find her. And it broke me. It just broke me where I started doubting everything about myself.”
“I’m not a strong auditioner on tape and I was having to put myself on tape. I wasn’t booking anything. And for three years, I basically didn’t work… I broke down and started like, I was like crying one day with him at his kitchen counter… I’m not okay, man. I’m not working. I’m so broken. I’ve got no confidence left. I don’t know what to do. I’m lost.”
“The worst thing was my old manager would say things like, this is just easy for you. You make it, it’s so easy for you. You don’t even have to try. Just stop trying. You’re trying too hard… And I lost it on him one day and started screaming. And I was like, stop saying that to me. You’re destroying me because you’ve told me my entire life it’s easy for me and it’s not fucking easy.”
"The Electric State", with a budget of $320mil and the Russo Brothers helming it didn't land hard on the collective consciousness of the world. "The Irishman" made $8mil with a $200mil budget. Are fillmmakers going to go more to streamers for the the safety of avoiding a "flop"? How do "Digger", "Megalopolis" and "Horizon" compare to these films?
Still thinking about #Digger It's one I am going to have to watch again as some things were odd and didn't make sense, then they totally made sense. There is a whole other level of Production going on. Design Dennis Gassner and Richard L. Johnson did a phenomenal job. The mannequins in the gallery were such a subtle touch that it makes me want to watch it just for those small worldbuilding details

Tom Cruise didn’t have to star in #Digger (🌟🌟🌟🌟). He didn’t have to take one of the biggest swings of his storied career. He could’ve used all the goodwill from Top Gun: Maverick & Mission: Impossible and done something safe. At 64, would anyone have blamed Cruise? Instead - as has been the case with Tom Cruise’s entire career - this man put two middle fingers to the sky. He said fuck your expectations of me. He said I’m making real art & I don’t give a damn who likes it. The things Cruise just did in Digger are utterly fearless. What more do you want from an artist??
Wow #Digger is insane. It's not what you think. It's like a Wes Anderson movie had sex with a Coen Brothers film on the set of Twelve Monkeys. The production design was sublime. Tom Cruise and John Goodman were off the charts. It's Art, and as such some will love it and some hate it. It's a huge swing for Alejandro Iñárritu. Go see it before you read about it.
