Peggy Noonan: "It wasn’t the war alone. It was the prices. The tariffs. Above all, the corruption, showy and shameless: crypto, pardons, federal contracts for his sons’ companies. Then came the decadence."

Stephen Miller is a dangerous xenophobe and reckless extremist who has American blood on his hands. His presence in government should be eradicated like a malignant tumor. Fire him today.

Sending lots of love to Chris Murphy and his family. Wishing him a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing him back in the Senate.

The sobering reality that GOP probably doesn't want to grapple with is that between the course likely coming from @StephenM and the corruption revelations that D oversight will surely produce, there's no reason to think Trump's 37% approval rating in the Voter Poll was his floor
NEW Economist/YouGov: Donald Trump % of registered voters who approve | disapprove of Trump This week 36%* | 62%** (-26*) Last week 39% | 58% (-19) Start of term 50% | 46% (+4) *2nd-term low **2nd-term high d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.ne… d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.ne… d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.ne…

Here's how to shape the Democratic party's future: Don't engage in a fratricidal civil war between moderates and progressives. And don't pay attention to news stories like this one that play up that battle. It's a big country—it should be a big party. nytimes.com/2026/11/07/us/po…

Here's how the House majority is shaping up, ideologically: - @NewDemCoalition: ~ 140+ members, including 39 who are new (30 of those flipped seats) - @USProgressives: ~125 members - @HouseBlueDogs: 22 members in their ranks, possibly more (currently a gain of 14) - @ProbSolveCaucus: 16 Dems have held on, tbd how many new members join. Republicans have lost 12 and could lose 4 more.
Soon-to-be House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries are projecting a 255 seat majority, a record where his leadership team could lose 35ish Democrats on a vote and still pass liberal policies. Democrats will convene next week to start nailing down policies and coordinating with Senate Democrats about the future

The scale of the G.O.P.’s loss in Tuesday’s midterm elections defied even Donald Trump’s ability to lie, dissemble, and squirm his way out of it. These were the President’s own voters, in states where he won by huge margins just a couple of years ago. “The scale of this is so large because the scale of Trump’s offenses has been so vast,” Susan Glasser writes. Tariffs and trade wars, Canada-bashing, Europe-bashing, the betrayal of Ukraine and embrace of Vladimir Putin, the grotesque self-enrichment of himself and his circle, the unleashing of an armed militia of ICE goons on our streets. “They voted because so much of what is happening in Trump’s America seems so very un-American,” Glasser continues. Four years ago, @IDPRitaHart said she wasn't giving up on Iowa and ran to be chair of the @iowademocrats. She started with 2.5 staff members. She created a convincing plan, made the calls, did the work, and built a team with 65+ organizers who knocked🚪in all 99 counties in '26.

More than a corrective—this is the first step to a realignment. A realignment to values and practicality and common-sense politics. But, please, no one yet declare "America is back." We need to bring America back and that does not happen overnight. This election was a referendum on Trumpism. It was not about ideology. 2028 will be in part a referendum on Democratic leadership. Dems need to show they can make a positive difference in the lives of all Americans. That's not about vengeance, but pursuing the common good.

Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face. These results were only possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country — including in areas once considered long shots. They came from different backgrounds and represented a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy. While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future.

Tonight, Iowans of all political affiliations came together to send a message: they want a representative who will take on the billionaires, corporate interests, and politics as usual–to finally put people first. Thank you for believing in this campaign. I won’t let you down.

It's poetic that Trump's final argument was about the reflecting pool because that's how he sees politics: it's all about reflections of himself.
