Am trying to wrap my Bears brain around what just happened in Green Bay. It appears the Packers ran a play with about 10 seconds left in the half, then called their last timeout and — the craziest part — even squeezed in a field goal before it was too late. What madness is this?

I’ll be writing on the election soon, but a few thoughts. Beyond the tactical, the resounding result is more evidence that far-right success follows far-left overreach. The media normalized Trump, but also downplayed how strongly many Americans disliked leftist agitation. 1/7

This is the text of the Post columnists' statement, for those hitting the paywall: The Washington Post’s decision not to make an endorsement in the presidential campaign is a terrible mistake. It represents an abandonment of the fundamental editorial convictions of the newspaper that we love. This is a moment for the institution to be making clear its commitment to democratic values, the rule of law and international alliances, and the threat that Donald Trump poses to them — the precise points The Post made in endorsing Trump’s opponents in 2016 and 2020. There is no contradiction between The Post’s important role as an independent newspaper and its practice of making political endorsements, both as a matter of guidance to readers and as a statement of core beliefs. That has never been more true than in the current campaign. An independent newspaper might someday choose to back away from making presidential endorsements. But this isn’t the right moment, when one candidate is advocating positions that directly threaten freedom of the press and the values of the Constitution. Signed by: Perry Bacon Jr., Matt Bai, E.J. On political endorsement wapo.st/3YmeD3T This is cowardice, with democracy as its casualty. @realdonaldtrump will see this as an invitation to further intimidate owner @jeffbezos (and others). Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage.

Wishing a happy 100th birthday to Reverend Bill Greason, the oldest living Negro Leaguer. Greason was a lifelong friend of Willie Mays, his teammate on the 1948 Birmingham Black Barons. In 1954 he became the first Black pitcher in St. Louis Cardinals history. A World War II and Korean War veteran, Greason proudly delivered the first pitch before the #MLBatRickwood game this past June.
