Watching the penny very slowly drop at The Economist is always a pleasure.
A hard look at Britain’s data suggests so. But it is hardly an epidemic economist.com/britain/2026/1…

Tomatoes used by Mutti look like standard plum 🍅. But slice them and you can see they have lots of flesh/few seeds.
They are all the rotondo di Parma variety. But there are sub-varieties. Most are bred by Heinz. Yes, the ketchup company is the world's leading seed breeder 🧵2/6

“Hello, this is Killian. Give me the Justice Department, Entertainment Division. No, no, hold that, Operator? Get me the President's agent.”
That’s a great bit of world building.

Reactionary colonels in the Home Counties who wrote to the newspapers half a century ago warning that the Labour Party were a bunch of lunatic Communists who would ruin the country are some of the most vindicated people in history.
FT comments never miss.
I don’t think I’ve read such a rational analysis of the situation we’re in for a long time.
I've been in France since 2002 and have never seen the streets so violent nor the politics so extreme. From the sacking of the supermarket on my street to the prospect of Présidente Le Pen, here's me @FT including thoughts from 2 French Nobel laureates as.ft.com/r/addcad57-0f9d-4e…

Astounding Sunday Times investigation reveals new scandal in SNP’s Socialist Scotland:
800 NHS, central government, council and quango workers whose jobs no longer exist but remain on the public payroll because of the SNP’s ‘no public-sector redundancy’ policy.
Estimated cost of paying people to do nothing: £27m a year.
One NHS Highland worker has been receiving a full salary and benefits for 17 years despite not having a specific job.
The health board refused to say what the worker had been doing for almost two decades and how much they had been paid.
Likely cost to the taxpayer is expected to be far higher with several public bodies refusing to disclose salaries for hundreds of the workers awaiting redeployment.
