Someone runs a 24:59 5K and says, "I know it's not that fast."
Hang on a minute.
Not fast compared to who?
The guy at your running club doing 17 minutes?
Someone who ran cross-country in college?
Because if that's your standard, most of us will never be fast.
In one analysis of 2.2 million US 5K results, fewer than 2% of finishes were under 20 minutes. The middle finish time was around 36 minutes.
So no, a 25-minute 5K isn't elite.
But it's hardly something to be embarrassed about either.
I see runners do this to themselves all the time.
Someone spends six months trying to break 30. Finally runs 29:30 and they're over the moon.
Then they start following a few faster runners online.
Suddenly 29:30 doesn't seem good anymore.
Now they need sub-25.
Then sub-20.
I'm all for chasing faster times. That's part of the fun.
But it's a shame when runners stop enjoying times they worked so hard for.
And age matters too. A 25-minute 5K at 65 isn't the same thing as running it at 25.
What 5K time would you actually call FAST?
If you're working toward sub-25, I've got the pace you need, some workouts to try, and a race plan here: runnersblueprint.com/your-ul…
Your longest marathon training run might be 20 miles.
Race day is 26.2. What about those last SIX miles?
Doing the full distance in training can wipe you out, though.
How far was your longest training run before your FIRST marathon?
16, 18 or 20 miles? Your longest training run doesn't need to be 26.2. This guide helps you pick the distance and timing:

New runner plans 2 miles.
Runs 2 miles. Goes home.
No extra loop to make the watch happy. No racing some random guy on the road.
I kind of miss that.
What beginner habit do you wish you'd kept?
5K PB: 28:40.
New carbon shoes: $280.
New goal: sub-20.
Love the ambition. But those shoes aren't finding you 8 minutes and 40 seconds 😂
Ever run a surprise PB in new shoes? How much faster?
Drop what you ate before your last long run and how long before running you ate it.
I'll tell you what to watch out for if you're having stomach trouble or running out of energy.
Here's my pre-run food and timing guide:

25:00 for a 5K.
One runner finally hits 25:00 after months of trying. Another runs the same time and is gutted they missed 23.
What race time still makes you smile?
Day 47 of a running streak.
Legs are wrecked. All you want is a day off.
But going back to day ONE? Harder than it should be.
Do you rest, or drag yourself through one lousy mile?
Streaks are fun till taking a day off feels impossible. This covers when to go easy and when to rest:

Runners say "I only did 10 miles today" like it was a quick walk.
Say that to someone who doesn't run. Watch their face 😂
What's the most ridiculous thing you've said about running?
Walk the whole 5K if you want. You paid your entry fee like everyone else.
But if you KNOW you're walking from step one, why line up right at the front?
Sorry, that's selfish.
Am I wrong?
Road runners, what's stopping you from trying trails?
The hills? Getting lost? Eating dirt?
I run trails a lot. Ask me anything, even if it's just where to start.
Worried about getting lost on your first trail run? Start with an easy route. Here's what to look for, plus shoes and gear to bring:
runnersblueprint.com/trail-r…
5K start line. One guy has 2 bottles, 3 gels and a running vest. Looks ready to camp out.
Guy next to him? Shoes and a house key 😂
What's the ONE thing you take on every run, even a short one?
20 miles on a treadmill.
TWENTY.
I'd be counting ceiling tiles by mile 8.
What's the longest you've done on a treadmill? How the hell did you stay sane?
Race tomorrow. Kit ready. Alarm set.
2:17 AM. Checking that damn alarm AGAIN. 😂
How much sleep did you get before your last race?
A) 8+ hours
B) 6–7
C) 4–5
D) 2–3
E) Barely any
Night-before race checklist:

Drop your letter + race result. Anyone PB on almost no sleep?
Start running and somehow the house turns into a shoe rack.
Sweaty shirt on the chair. Socks drying by the window. Another pair of shoes in the doorway.
How is there THIS much laundry from one hobby?
Is everyone's place like this or just mine?
Someone runs a 12-minute mile and gets told they're basically walking.
That drives me nuts. At that pace, a 5K takes about 37 minutes. Maybe that sounds slow to some runners. But if your first 5K took 45 or 50 minutes, it's a big step forward.
And some people have been running 12-minute miles for years. They're not beginners. They're not pretending to run. That's just their pace.
You can walk fast or run slow. The number on your watch doesn't decide which one you're doing.
If you run 11, 12, 13, or 14-minute miles, how long have you been running? Has anyone ever told you that you were too slow to count as a runner?
Running or jogging? Here’s how pace and effort fit into that argument: runnersblueprint.com/running…
