Makes sense. But this is the NCAA weā€™re talking about. History shows it would rather spend money on lawyers to ensure athletes canā€™t get paid or canā€™t play, than use that money to benefit athletes.

Rick Barnes said today he has an idea for the NCAA. Clear all the fifth-year players looking for eligibility in the courts. Then take all the money that would've been spent on legal fees and give it to the Olympic sports that need it. šŸ”— on3.com/teams/tennessee-voluā€¦

A stat that may explain Villanovaā€™s decision: The last season before Covid, there were 50 true road games played by power-conference MBB teams against opponents from outside the power conferences. This season, there are 11 such games.

The current format of Big 5 men's basketball will end after this year, and the immediate future has the 5 non-Villanova schools playing round-robin without the Wildcats. Villanova didn't want to keep this format, and another could not be agreed on. Story:inquirer.com/college-sports/ā€¦

Big 5 menā€™s basketball schools to move forward with round-robin format without Villanova in 2027-28

It's possible that a one-day Big 5 Classic tripleheader lives on. But with the current format nearing the end of its contract, Villanova was not interested in keeping with the status quo.

Florida vs. Baylor exhibition takeaways: Kayden Mingo (31 pts, 8 reb, 4 ast) and Isaac Williams IV (17 pts) looked terrific for the Bears. This Baylor squad will be fun to watch this season. Floridaā€™s backcourt struggles showed as they shot just 13.8% from beyond the arc.
