Thank you to MPP @MichaelParsa, Coach Nasser, and everyone at HOMA Volleyball Club for the terrific evening -
Coach Nasser, we appreciate your long standing engagement in support of Richmond Hill athletes.
This is a heartbreaking morning for our community. I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire in Richmond Hill early this morning that claimed the life of one of our community members.
On behalf of Richmond Hill Council and our entire community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the individual who lost his life. My thoughts are also with the residents who have been affected and displaced by this devastating fire.
I want to thank Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services, York Regional Police, paramedics and all first responders who responded to this emergency and continue their work at the scene.
The hearts of the community of Richmond Hill are with the family and everyone affected by this tragedy.
It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the tragic accident at CFB Wainwright.
In honour of the four service members who died, identified as Pte. Aidan Goulding, Pte. Shaun Farrell, Pte. Hayden Lykkemark, Sgt. Morgan Wong, and the many injured and countless more impacted, City of Richmond Hill flags will be lowered to half-mast.
Our prayers are with the fallen, the families whose lives have been irrevocably changed, the firefighters, first responders, and local heros. We are keeping the whole community in our thoughts.
Thank you to the @Bohras_Canada for supporting our Richmond Hill community through this generous annual donation to the Richmond Hill Community Food Bank. @RHFoodBank
This Thanksgiving tradition is an inspiration to us all.
#GiveWhereYouLive
Richmond Hill Mayor @DavidWestRH joined @ProjectRiseDB volunteers from the #Richmond #DawoodiBohra community in donating 53 turkeys to @RHFoodBank.
Now in its fifth year, this #Thanksgiving tradition is a reminder that the warmth of the holiday is best shared with our neighbours.
Happy Thanksgiving, Richmond Hill. 🦃🍂
This weekend offers an opportunity to reflect on all we have to be thankful for, including the family, friends, and communities that support us. I'm grateful every day for the people who make Richmond Hill such a welcoming and vibrant city. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and restful Thanksgiving.
📢There’s a new option for Richmond Hill residents commuting to and from Markham.
Thank you to Richmond Hill, Markham and York Region for this collaborative project-Moving people around our city and region
Today, we mark the solemn third anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
For Jewish communities here at home and around the world, the fear, trauma, and profound grief caused by these attacks remains deeply felt. At a time when antisemitism continues to rise, threats, intimidation, and acts of hatred directed at Jewish individuals, institutions, and places of worship are unacceptable.
I want to assure Richmond Hill residents that York Regional Police is exercising a high level of vigilance. I remain in close contact with YRP and District 2 and have been advised that, while there are no known specific or credible threats to public safety in our area, there will be an increased police presence near synagogues, community centres, and gathering places.
Hate. Discrimination. Violence. These have no place in our society.
Today, we remember those who were lost, stand with those who continue to grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring Richmond Hill remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community for all.
To our Jewish residents: you are valued members of our community, and Richmond Hill stands with you against antisemitism and hate in all its forms.

That’s a wrap on another whirlwind AMO Conference.
I’m heading home today with renewed energy and fresh ideas after connecting with so many Ontario mayors. While every community has its own unique strengths and challenges, we share many common priorities. This year, one of the most pressing issues discussed by mayors from across the province, including myself, was the growing mental health, addictions and homelessness crisis facing communities throughout Ontario. I support the call to action launched at the AMO Conference, urging the provincial government to take immediate and meaningful action. Visit SolveTheCrisis.ca to learn more.
On behalf of Richmond Hill, I met with representatives from more than nine provincial ministries over the past three days. Thank you to Minister Rob Flack (Municipal Affairs and Housing), Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy, Attorney General Doug Downey, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, and Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Vijay Thanigasalam for taking the time to meet with Ontario mayors.
Our Richmond Hill delegation was highly engaged throughout the conference, participating in numerous strategic discussions focused on the issues that matter most to our community. Thank you to Associate Minister of Small Business Nina Tangri, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Brian Saunderson, and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure Amarjot Sandhu for meeting with Richmond Hill’s CAO and me.
AMO provides an invaluable opportunity to strengthen relationships, advocate for our community’s priorities and work collaboratively with municipal and provincial partners to build stronger, healthier communities across Ontario.

Recognizing the Homelessness, Addictions and Mental Health Crisis that cities across Ontario, including our own community, are facing, the Ontario Big City Mayors and MARCO unanimously passed a resolution to have the Ontario Government take bold and decisive action to meet the crisis on our streets.
This crisis directly impacts individuals, families and the rest of our community and while we have been calling for more support to deal with this issue in past years, this updated call for action reflects the urgency that is needed to meet the moment, save lives and make our communities more compassionate and safer for everyone. Celebrating Emancipation Day in Richmond Hill with York Region Alliance of African Canadian Communities
It was an honour to recognize this important date with community members at the Richmond Hill Public Library, after the official Flag Raising at City Hall. Thank you @YRAACCYouth and @RichmondHillPL
Richmond Hill has been waiting a long time for the Yonge North Subway Extension but there is real, visible progress happening! Today, we acknowledged the completion of the launch shaft, visible south of the 407, just east of the Yonge Street bridge.
For the next step, the tunnel boring machine is on its way from Germany, and at the same time the station and rails projects will progress.
It was interesting to hear from the Project Engineers about how the project will proceed, including the complicated engineering involved and the materials needed to tunnel between Finch Station and Richmond Hill. While there is no final estimate on the timeline, this huge project should be ‘on track’ to open in the early 2030’s.
Today marks an important milestone, and I would like to thank Minister Roberston, Minister Sarkaria, Richmond Hill MPP Michael Parsa as well as many local MPPs and my fellow York Region Mayor Scarpetti for marking the occasion.
