An early morning hike with my class in the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Beautiful, dense vegetation, and the songs of howler monkeys in the trees above. @AugiePhilosophy @AugustanaSD #environmentalphilosophy #teachoutdoors

Happy to announce I built a Greek/English reader site with all the surviving plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, & Aristophanes.
Multiple translations for each play; click to parse & define for any Greek word; full Greek & English search.

Just put new machine heads on my son’s classical guitar and then of course had to play it for a while to test them out. Then I had to test my acoustic guitar. And then my bouzouki.
Which is to say my weekend is going pretty well.
Good news! I’ve checked all my stringed instruments and most of my painting supplies, and so far they all seem to have survived the latest hacking attempts. Phew.

A glimpse of my journal after yesterday’s run in the nearby state park.
Running helps me go faster; sketching and journaling help me to slow down and see.

Attention is an indicator of love.
Not attending to what merits our love is indifference.
Attending to what does not merit our love is idolatry.
When businesses work hard to commodify our attention, we should consider who and what actually deserves it.
Two delightful days with @McCormickProf and @CornelWest on the Augustana campus this week. I had the privilege of inviting them to campus and of introducing them to my colleagues and students. And then the privilege of witnessing their genuine love of God and neighbor.
Not to brag, but I had dinner with @McCormickProf last night and it made me wish every one of my students could have joined us to hear his stories.
Good news: there are still a few tickets for his talk tonight! And they’re free!

"Cyanic" is too a word, #SpellingBee.
On a recent visit to Chicago I was thinking how fun it would be to return to stonemasonry and maintain beautiful buildings there. This article makes me think Oxford needs good stonemasons even more than Chicago does.

Additional benefit to the K-O stadium at @AugustanaSD? You get to watch my students play, and they’re some of the finest, kindest students I’ve known. And you can see the coach and his staff at work, helping them be not just good athletes, but good people. @CoachOJ_

To exemplify the meaning of #intelligence as inter-legere or "reading between the lines": Reading an argument by #Peirce demands that you connect the explicit premises with implicit ones and that you make some intermediate inferences before reaching the conclusion.
