David Walliams is fired from a film, and an unnamed celebrity threatened to take his own life if sexual abuse allegations are made public. According to TMZ, Walliams has been dropped from an upcoming film, The Road to Nevermore, following allegations of misconduct. This comes after publisher HarperCollins stopped publishing his books, including his existing back catalogue, following allegations concerning his behaviour towards female employees. His talent agency, YMU, is also reportedly no longer representing him. The problem goes far deeper than one incident. Walliams’ career, particularly Little Britain, has long been built on racist caricatures, blackface and dehumanising stereotypes. The BBC and entertainment industry repeatedly gave him a platform despite years of public criticism and complaints about racism. This isn’t just about one individual; it’s about an industry that repeatedly chose ratings and profit over accountability.
