I was deeply honored to serve as the Plenary Speaker for the AfteRIT Retreat 2025. Thank you @RITscience and @HudsonLabRIT for this incredible opportunity to connect with and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. #AfteRIT2025 #BreakingBarriers #RITScience
What an incredible experience @RITscience AfteRIT turned out to be! Our second annual one-day retreat brought together, faculty, staff and alumni including two College of Science National Council Members, Melissa Scrimo and Linda Kerrigan in a shared effort to build life and career skills that extend far beyond the classroom. From workshops on financial planning to job search strategies, attendees slated to graduate this spring from the College of Science and the College of Health Sciences and Technology gained invaluable insights to prepare for life after RIT. A huge thank you to my colleague, Dr. Lea Michel for her outstanding leadership in making AfteRIT a reality. Her vision and dedication to supporting our scholars in their holistic development truly shine through initiatives like this. Dr. Michel, your commitment to equipping our students with the tools they need to thrive is inspiring! A huge thanks to, alumna Dr. Amie Fornah Sankoh @DeafScientist for being our keynote speaker! At the College of Science, we recognize that academic success is just one piece of the puzzle. Developing life skills is equally critical to ensuring our students are ready to excel in all aspects of life. AfteRIT reminded us of the power of preparing for the future and how much can be achieved through collaboration and learning from those who have walked the path before us.

Feeling a bit nostalgic today, thinking about my incredible lab colleagues at the @DanforthCenter. That place wasn’t just a hub of scientific discovery for me, it was where I made lifelong connections and experienced some of the most important growth in my career.

To everyone grieving, forgive yourself for finding moments of joy amidst loss. You are absolutely allowed to experience happiness even while mourning. Your love for them isn't measured by your pain.

When you’re disabled - keeping yourself alive is a full time job. Managing doctors appts, fighting for safe & competent healthcare and living in a world that isn’t made for you is exhausting. Since we entered the “you do you” phase of COVID… it’s become nearly impossible. 🧵/1

⚠️Sonya Massey, 36, should still be alive. She made the difficult decision to callthe police for help in a time of need- instead she was shot and executed by police on July 6th in Springfield, Illinois.

From age six, Tessa Burch-Smith, PhD, knew that she wanted to be a scientist. Today, she and her team research how plant cells communicate with each other through plasmodesmata. Follow her lab’s work at @PD_lab_DDPSC and learn more at loom.ly/qYwF6r4

Dear Friends, This #GivingTuesday2023 I am reminded of the incredible impact we can make when we give back. Please accept my invitation to join our campaign to expand access to quality #education in #sierraleone with @schoolsforsalone a Seattle-based non-profit founded by a former Peace Corps Volunteers whose ❤️ for mama 🇸🇱 continues decades after they served there. Their love and leadership inspired me to join the board two years ago. @Schools4Salone works through five local NGOs led by Sierra Leonean education champions like @bidemic. We’ve already raised $34,000 of our $100,000 goal so far we have ways to go. Here's how your contribution can make a difference: 🌟A contribution of $325 can provide a one-year scholarship for a deserving child. 🌟A gift of $500 can offer 10 bicycles for safe transportation, ensuring that 10 girls can attend school regularly. 🌟Your $1,000 donation can help us tackle period poverty, providing essential supplies and support to keep 100 girls in school. 🌟A generous gift of $5,000 can provide learning materials for three schools, enabling countless children to access the tools they need to learn and grow. To gift scholarships, bicycles, learning materials, or menstrual kits, visit us today - schoolsforsalone.salsalabs.o… If you can't give today but want to support your repost / RT is a gift too. Thank you. Love you. 🇸🇱❤️ #givingtuesday Short video highlights of our impact below more on our website schoolsforsalone.org.
