Since last Friday, Lendsqr has been battling a wave of cyberattacks. We are safe, lost no money and no data, and no customer account has been compromised. But we've lost sleep and I have probably drunk a barrel of black coffee. But that is not because they forgot about us. When a few fintechs got hit in early October, we turned on ourselves, found over 800 issues in our own systems and spent three weeks fixing them. That was three weeks before the attacks reached us. This wave has been going through the technology world since early October. Binance lost about $6.3 billion after one engineer's laptop was compromised. Railway told every one of its customers to change all their secret keys. Hundreds of developer accounts on GitHub have been taken over with stolen tokens. Abroad, companies come out and say it, and the next company learns. In Nigeria, we keep quiet. Every company whose people have spoken to me in confidence over the last few days has either been breached or lost money, and not one of them has said a word in public. So, the same people walk into the next company with exactly the same trick. I'm done keeping quiet about it. The way in is almost always a developer: stolen GitHub tokens, infected laptops, and fake recruiters sending a "test project" that compromises your machine the moment you open it. If you are a developer, revoke every GitHub token you have ever created today and scan your machine. If you run a company, turn on two-factor authentication everywhere, remove everyone who has left, change your keys, and pick up the phone when anybody asks you to change where money goes. I've written up everything: how they came at us, what we did, and every attacker address we saw, so you can check your own logs. The link is in the first comment. Thank you to Muyiwa Olufon and the team at @hinokisecurity for standing with us. Abeg, make we speak up. Fraud thrives in darkness.

Loneliness is a standard prerequisite for an exceptional outcome. You must have the ability to discern and that is done alone

There’s a high chance that you are the reason you haven’t gotten the result you’re looking for. It’s a tough pill to swallow but the truth all the same.

Trust will shape the future of e-commerce in Nigeria. In my latest article, I explore why trust is the most valuable currency in Nigerian e-commerce and how it will influence the way we build, sell, and shop. kominiti.com/post/e627d3a8-f…

Philosophy has always been a problem, it will always be a problem, it is problem in itself. So why argue? To tease your intellectual curiosity? Quite fun. But shaming another, for holding a position, it’s not philosophical.

I’m working on a case study and it’s quite interesting how culture has its hold on E-commerce.

😂😂😂 Sam is saying cooking in my own house is a bad idea… Trying to secure his bag.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

use aiscan.tsheks.com to discover this loopholes before it reaches production and waste money.
My own was up to 10m but the money was recovered a bit… I didn't pay the debt, cause there were instructions, the user didn't follow it. It was because of an edge case, that I did not think of. I learnt from it.

Race conditions and improperly handling of Idempotency key has landed me in a debt of 1.8M. Cheers to more 🍷

Friday’s answer: MD5 isn’t safe for storing passwords. Use a slow, salted hash like bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2, and add MFA and rate limiting. Did you guess it? Tell us below. #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #appsec #websecurity #devtok #Tsheks
