The hallmark of a true democracy lies in the conduct of free and fair elections. However, it has come to our notice that in #Nuapada, serious violations are taking place during the legally mandated silence period — 36 hours before polling. As per the Election Commission’s guidelines, political leaders and campaigners from outside the constituency are required to leave the area once the silence period begins. Contrary to this, we have reliable information that ministers, mlas and leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from outside Nuapada are freely moving around and attempting to influence voters through unfair means. Disturbingly, when local Biju Janata Dal (@bjd_odisha) leaders have objected to these activities, they have been detained by the police. This clearly suggests that the district administration and local police are acting in a partisan manner, serving the interests of the ruling party rather than upholding electoral neutrality. This situation strikes at the very core of democratic fairness and undermines public faith in the electoral process. Such actions, if allowed to continue, will cast a serious shadow on the integrity of the polls in Nuapada. We therefore request the immediate intervention of the Election Commission of India (@ECISVEEP) to:     1.    Enforce the 36-hour silence period strictly.     2.    Ensure that Ministers MLAs and leaders of BJP from outside vacate the constituency as per ECI norms.     3.    Direct the district administration and police to act impartially and uphold the sanctity of the election process. Also to keep a close watch on the list of booths given by BJD and other opposition parties as sensitive and vulnerable for manipulation by BJP. The people of India have inherited this democracy through the sacrifices of our forefathers, and it is the duty of every institution — especially the Election Commission — to protect it from erosion. We seek your urgent action to preserve the credibility of this election. JAI HIND

Forget BJP BJD for a moment. Indian politics needs to get rid of these leeches who jump ship to always be with the establishment for their own selfish interest. Politically BJP gained nothing as Amar Patnaik is useless. But his bank accounts will help.
There are no permanent friends or permanent enemies in Politics, just permanent interests. This quote gets further reinforced as Former BJD Rajya Sabha MP & head of BJD IT Cell Amar Patnaik joined BJP today in an unprecedented development. Hope he has sanitised his SM accounts.

DRDO Cut-offs: General – 757, OBC – 646, SC – 548, ST – 386. So even in Defense R&D, reservations decide who builds missiles, radars & fighter tech. Maybe next time our weapons will also fire on quota system instead of enemy targets. And we still ask why India isn’t a superpower in Defense Equipment and Tech?

WAKE-UP CALL Why are we slowing down on development activities in Odisha? Is it because of some ailment like rheumatoid arthritis? Cuttack Medical College expansion work seems to be in a state of suspended animation. Barabati Fort Moat is in shambles and looks miserable. A waterbody there with boating would have added value to the ancient city. Cuttack Chandi Temple periphery development is almost forgotten. Gadgadia Ghat development would have led to a unique River Front Development initiative. Bhubaneswar Lake development is like Odisha’s potato mission— on paper. The Lake would touch two major city roads— Janpath and Sachivalaya Marg. Two iconic Bridges on both roads would have created city identity landmarks— like Sydney Bridge or Howrah Bridge. Many Airport projects are on Bullock cart speed. Berhampur deserves a functional Airport. It’s being neglected. Most Railway projects except Khurda-Bolangir is not receiving state government’s attention. Bimalagarh-Talcher project is still struggling with land acquisition issues. What’s happening then in Odisha? How are we getting prepared for 2036? What type of Odisha do we have in mind ?

Today’s news about rape in Jajpur, gangrape in Jagatsinghpur and Malkangiri and sexual assault in Puri … deeply saddens and horrifies all of us. A disturbing wave of crimes against women is gripping Odisha. Both in cities and villages, the streets have become increasingly unsafe for women--in broad daylight and night. A young student heading to school or college or returning from tutorial classes cannot be sure of her safety. Danger now lurks in everyday normal places. This surge in sexual assaults reflects a troubling erosion of law enforcement. When the various ranks of the police face interference and political pressure, accountability weakens--and women and girls pay the price first. Adding to this concern, the US Government last month issued a Level 2 travel advisory that listed Odisha among six Indian states where American employees must seek special approval to travel beyond capital cities. While the state has seen a decline in Maoist activity and there is minimal terrorism, this inclusion likely reflects concerns over rising crimes against women. The July 17 directive by Ravenshaw University in Cuttack--banning women from staying on campus beyond 5:30 PM--further exposed the crisis. Though it was withdrawn after public outrage, the order revealed a mindset that seeks to restrict women instead of making public spaces safer for them. It punished women instead of targeting the real problem. Without urgent and decisive police action and political will backing it, this problem will only grow. The political leadership must realise that allowing interference of local party leaders in police stations will only normalise violence across the state especially gender-based violence. The state BJP government must act immediately to restore safety and rebuild women’s trust in the system sworn to protect them. BJD will continue to raise its voice for the protection of our mothers and sisters in every forum.

The right to democratic protest is under grave threat in #Odisha. Today, the @bjd_odisha exercised its constitutional right to hold a peaceful demonstration, protesting the tragic death of a 20-year-old girl student--a victim of systemic apathy and sheer betrayal. As BJD leaders marched in a disciplined manner towards Lok Seva Bhawan, the police unhesitatingly used water cannons to disperse the peaceful crowd. Shockingly, they even fired rubber bullets without any provocation. I strongly condemn the heavy-handed tactics employed by the police and the Government to sabotage the BJD’s peaceful march. The police acted in a blatantly partisan manner, rushing to fire rubber bullets when there was absolutely no justification for such excessive force. Just a few days ago, a senior IPS officer was caught on camera near the Chief Minister’s residence instructing his force to break the legs of protesters and promising awards to those who achieved this feat. Today, the legs of two ex Ministers have been broken, probably needing surgery. Other senior leaders of BJD, a lady Rajya Sabha member, and several party workers have been brutally hit by the police. Clearly, the Government owes an explanation for this kind of a direction. The BJD will continue its relentless fight undeterred, until justice is served for the FM College girl student who lost her life tragically. Neither water cannons nor rubber bullets can weaken our resolve. Let it be clear: no force can stifle our commitment to stand up for justice and uphold the democratic rights of the people of #Odisha.
