He wasn't trying to crush them but to knock them down so they couldn't rush and stab him again. For good measure thick purple smoke began pouring out from his sides as he ran around them, again using blackwhip to grab and throw more debris in their direction.

Now they were surrounded by his smoke and debris were coming at them from every dangle. He was sure the couldn't see him so he floated up into the air to look down at them, hoping he knocked them off their feet so he could easily tangle them up in blackwhip and apprehend them.
