As Kenya advances toward more sustainable and locally led HIV programs, Kajiado County is demonstrating how community-driven solutions can strengthen health systems and sustain HIV response gains. Through collaboration between Deloitte Tujenge Jamii, NASCOP, and the Kajiado County Department of Health, innovative approaches are expanding access to HIV services while building county ownership. A key milestone has been the transition of 24 Community Health Assistants (CHAs) into HIV Testing Services (HTS) providers through targeted capacity strengthening. This initiative has reduced reliance on externally supported testing personnel, strengthened the local health workforce, and ensured continuity of HIV testing services across county health facilities. The county is also implementing the Social Network Strategy (SNS) at the Namanga One Stop Border Post Health Center to effectively reach priority populations, while sustaining the Red-Carpet Strategy at Magadi Hospital to improve HIV prevention, testing, treatment, and viral suppression outcomes among men. These interventions highlight the value of investing in local health workers, community structures, and county leadership to build resilient health systems capable of sustaining progress beyond donor-supported programs. These experience from Kajiado County has consistently demonstrated that strengthening local capacity and ownership can support the continuity and sustainability of HIV services while building a more resilient health system. Over the last two months, Deloitte & Touche LLP, through the Tujenge Jamii Program, successfully conducted training on the new Kenya Integrated Guidelines on the Treatment and Prevention of HIV, STI and Viral Hepatitis 2026 Guidelines across five counties: Samburu, Nakuru, Kajiado, Laikipia, and Baringo. The updated guidelines are built on the NASCOP recommendations and will equip healthcare workers with the latest evidence-based approaches to HIV, STI and Viral Hepatitis prevention, care and treatment. A total of 742 healthcare providers drawn from diverse cadres were trained and will serve as county-level champions, facilitating Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions to cascade knowledge and strengthen service delivery across health facilities. One of the key updates in the new guidelines is the enhanced focus on the management of Viral Hepatitis B, recognizing its importance in the comprehensive care of people living with HIV and improving overall health outcomes. Deloitte remains at the forefront of supporting Kenya's healthcare system by strengthening the capacity of healthcare providers and enhancing health systems at both national and county levels.
