Sometimes, I'm asked, "Why are you so giving of your time? Aren't you worried people will take advantage of you?"
My response, which will surprise some of you…
I fully expect some people to take advantage of what I have to share. But I'm actually doing this on purpose.
I want the person to reveal their true self as early as possible. If someone is a taker, and is only really interested in their own gain, then I want to know who they are. I take them off the long-term friends list.
It's because I believe I have a lot to give. Way more than what can be gained after a casual encounter.
For the real ones, I will give my friendship, mentorship, time, advice, etc… This is what I have to be ultimately protective of. This is the real treasure I need to safeguard.
So go ahead. Take.
