A few further thoughts. This Summit was unimaginable 3 years ago in the doldrums of the Brexit wars. Two things have transformed the context: Putin’s war in Ukraine and Trump’s indifference to allies and European security. The Sec and Defence pact is therefore good for UK and EU/
The key gain is that it launches a negotiation to get UK defence industry into the €150bn SAFE defence investment fund. Like most of the results, it’s a commitment to agree but it’s the decision of principle. And don’t underestimate the decision shaping value of the dialogues!

While the Conservatives undoubtedly left this government a dire fiscal inheritance, that's no excuse to push more pensioners into poverty as the temperature plummets. Cutting this allowance will drive more vulnerable older people into poverty, forcing them to choose between heating and eating.

Good news. We need to support the courts without fear or favour. Remember these were linked to warrants for Hamas leaders too who have since been killed. No one should be above the courts and we just respect the process.

Sad to hear of the death of @TonyCampolo - I recall hearing him speak in @StMarysWarwick a few years ago. When asked WWJD about global poverty his answer was something like 'well, he wouldn't be driving around in a Mercedes'. @RedLetterXians @compassionuk

Raising concerns about the activity of Russian intelligence vessels in the waters around the UK and Ireland today - something we have seen before in the Northern Isles. Glad the minister indicated that the government is considering this in the strategic defence review next year.

At WCC Cabinet meeting today briefly asking questions again about the much delayed, over budget £39M A46 Stoneleigh Junction project - I even suggested what the answers should be @highwaysmag @DominicBrowne1 facebook.com/share/p/18ApfTZ… – at Kenilworth, England

It's when the equivalent of today's Cathedral Dean @deancov spoke about friendship, reconciliation and forgiveness. It's why I'm proud to be at @covcampus in the UK's only city of peace and reconciliation. It's why #Coventry welcomes refugees and migrants. @coventrycc 2/2

Today 14th November is an important day in the history of #Coventry. 84 years ago today large parts of the city were destroyed, including the old @CovCathedral, and many people were killed as a result of air raids. But 15th November is a more more important date.... 1/2
