"Hardware chain #Bunnings will stop selling engineered stone at the end of the year, in a major victory for unions and health experts campaigning for a ban on the silicosis-causing material."
Australia needs a TOTAL BAN on the use of #EngineeredStone. It's dangerous, and #silicosis is preventable.

Asbestos is dangerous, and it could be in your home. 🏡⚠
The use or import of #asbestos has been banned in Australia since 2003, but the danger and consequences of exposure to this deadly substance are still very much present in everyday life.
Asbestos was banned 20 years ago – so why are #mesothelioma cases so high now? 🤔
This November, we recognise #AsbestosAwarenessMonth and #AsbestosAwarenessWeek – to raise awareness around identifying and handling asbestos products and recognise the ongoing struggle of those at risk of, or suffering from, an asbestos-related disease. 💛
Raising awareness is crucial in preventing another wave of mesothelioma cases in the future. 📉

Working as a field assistant on drill rigs for a large mining exploration company, a job she held for ten years, gave Wendy the flexible lifestyle she wanted and the ability to spend quality time with her loved ones.
“I loved the variety of work, the country, the people, and then flying back to city life and family,” says Wendy.
Wendy thought her job was a safe one.

⚠ ENGINEERED STONE TO BE BANNED! ⚠
We welcome today's announcement by state and federal governments of a ban on engineered stone from July 2024
A complete ban on #engineeredstone in Australia is the right decision for workers and the general public.
One of the most toxic and deadly products to ever grace our shores will itself be killed off. Like asbestos, there is no safe level of workplace exposure to silica dust.
Sadly, for many of our clients it has come far too late.
Accelerated stonemasonry silicosis is a catastrophic disease that kills or significantly harms young tradesmen.
We've seen how it ruins the lives and families of hundreds of workers:
"In our line of work, every day we see the devastating impacts of exposure to deadly silica dust," Jonathan Walsh tells News Corp Australia.
This will save lives.
But, there's more work to be done.
The problem of excessive silica dust exposure and rampant rates of silica related disease does not stop with a ban of engineered stone.
It is only the beginning.
