About 20 years ago, Bayelsa governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha pulled off one of Nigeria’s wildest escapes.
Charged in the UK for laundering £1.8m, he got a tummy tuck in Germany, disguised himself in a wig and dress, took the Eurostar to Paris, flew to Douala, and sneaked into Bayelsa by speedboat—where he was welcomed as a hero.
He was impeached later that year, pleaded guilty in 2007, and got just 2 years in prison.
