“I could still get COVID after vaccination” is not evidence the vaccine failed. It is evidence you are comparing two very different viruses as though vaccines were magic shields. Smallpox vaccination could produce durable protection against a genetically stable virus with no animal reservoir. SARS-CoV-2 is a rapidly evolving respiratory virus that repeatedly changed enough to evade some protection against infection. The relevant question was never “Can a vaccinated person test positive?” It was: Are vaccinated people less likely to become severely ill, be hospitalized, or die? They were. Repeatedly. You did not get “a little smallpox” because smallpox biology allowed eradication. COVID vaccination reduced risk without producing sterilizing immunity. Different virus. Different biology. Different outcome. And “I still got infected” does not erase the people who stayed out of the ICU.
