KOGI STATE: HISTORY, GOVERNANCE AND THE CHALLENGE OF BUILDING A NEW NIGERIA
After participating in the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council of our party, the NDC, yesterday, I travelled to Kogi State today, 27th October 2026, as part of my ongoing series of town hall meetings across the country. In Lokoja, I paid a courtesy visit to the Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV.
I sincerely thank His Royal Highness for receiving us at such short notice. I informed him of our town hall meeting in Lokoja, after which he graciously took time to share with us some of the history of the city.
He told us about the historic Holy Trinity Primary School, which was established in 1865 by the Most Reverend Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and missionaries of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion. It is regarded as the oldest primary school in Northern Nigeria. He also told us about the historic 'Iron of Liberty' monument.
Visiting these historic sites was both enlightening and sobering. The Holy Trinity Primary School reminded me that, 161 years after its establishment, Nigeria still has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world. It is concerning that we have not done enough to preserve these legacies or build on the foundations laid by those who came before us.
At the 'Iron of Liberty,' I was reminded of the historic collaboration between missionaries and the authorities in the struggle to end the slave trade in Nigeria.
My visits to these sites reinforce my comments yesterday about spending all my holidays as President in Nigeria. They also highlight the abundant tourism potential of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole.
From these historic sites, I proceeded to our town hall meeting, organised by our party and candidates, where we had a lengthy and engaging conversation about the contemporary challenges facing our country.
During the interaction, we discussed several issues affecting our nation, including corruption, agriculture, tourism in Kogi State, the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company and other important matters.
My response was to reiterate our position that endemic, entrenched and institutional corruption remains at the core of many of the challenges confronting Nigeria today and must be decisively addressed.
I reiterated my commitment to uniting and securing our country around a common purpose: investing in health and education, strengthening our productive capacity and pulling our people out of pervasive poverty.
I concluded my visit by consoling a business owner whose complex was recently gutted by fire. I also visited traders at Kpata Market, where I interacted with them and received first-hand information about the prevailing economic situation, including the rising cost of goods. The traders complained of low patronage due to reduced disposable income among consumers.
I thank the large crowd that attended the event for their warm reception and the fruitful interaction we had.
My sincere gratitude goes to the organisers of our town hall meeting in Lokoja, our candidates, and all our party members and participants.
A New Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK. -PO

Today, we held a series of party activities, beginning with the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, followed by the commissioning of the new national secretariat of our great party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). I had the honour and pleasure of commissioning the secretariat, with the support of our presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, CON, his running mate, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, CON, the National Chairman and other leaders of our party.
This evening, we also formally inaugurated the National Campaign Council of the NDC and presented certificates to our candidates at a dinner.
These events showcased the strength of our party and our determination to compete and win elections at all levels, from the presidency to the State Houses of Assembly.
In my remarks, I thanked Almighty God, reflecting on how this party began. I also thanked our presidential candidate, his running mate, all our candidates and aspirants for believing in the vision of the NDC. I expressed my appreciation to Nigerians for their encouragement, prayers and support, as well as to our members, state chairmen, members of the National Working Committee and the NEC, whose sacrifices have contributed to the party’s growth.
When we started, many people did not give us a chance. As I said, in every struggle, first, they ignore you; then they mock you; then they attack you; and eventually, you win. That was the quotation attributed to Mahatma Gandhi that I referred to in my remarks.
Those who initially ignored and mocked us can no longer afford to do so. We have reached the stage of attacks, but we remain resolute in our determination to succeed. I therefore call on all our members and candidates to remain resilient and conduct issue-based, violence-free election campaigns.
For us, the question is simple: Are the lives of Nigerians better today than they were in 2015, when the APC took over, or even three and a half years ago, in 2023? Are Nigerians safer?
Every election, and every attempt at re-election, is a referendum on the ruling party and its government. This is the question we are taking to Nigerians as we prepare for the 2027 elections.
One of our principal objectives in building the NDC is to establish an institution that is bigger and greater than any one of us, an institution that will endure for posterity. We are determined to set standards and build a party that is accountable to its members and the Nigerian people.
I thank all those who have contributed to this vision, particularly our aspirants and candidates who purchased nomination forms and made donations. Their contributions are sustaining the party. I do not earn a dime from the NDC. My role has been to provide guidance, help build standards and promote transparency.
Today, the NDC unveiled another uncommon initiative by publicly declaring its revenue. By the end of this year, a formally audited account will be presented to the NEC, the public and the relevant institutions of state. Without the sacrifices and financial contributions of our members and candidates, this party would not have come this far, especially given that we started without substantial financial resources. I thank them for their partnership and confidence in our mission.
My message to all our aspirants and candidates is that they must work with the party. They are not contesting as independent candidates. The party is like a horse. Let us strengthen, nourish and train it so that whoever rides it can ride it to victory.
I also call on INEC and all relevant government agencies to sanitise the electoral process and work towards delivering free, fair and credible elections in 2027. The outcome must be credible and acceptable, including to those who lose.
Law abiding citizens not running from the law is seen as a flex

EFCC busted spike lounge at Beckley estate in Abule Egba and everyone literally ran for their lives except my friend and his wife 🤣 🤣
He said they just continued sipping their drinks and enjoying their chicken and chips 😂
The EFCC looked at them and left without questioning them.

EXIT OF A TITAN
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the revered Afenifere leader and elder statesman, at the age of 100.
Baba lived a life defined by courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to democracy, justice, and a better Nigeria. His passing is a great loss to his family, the Yoruba nation, and our country.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the entire Afenifere family, and all those who mourn this great patriot. May God grant them the strength to bear this painful loss and grant Baba eternal rest.
His legacy of principled leadership, selfless service, and steadfast commitment to democratic ideals will continue to inspire generations. -PO
A NEW AND PRODUCTIVE NIGERIA IS POSSIBLE, AND NIGERIA WILL BE OK
Yesterday, 26th of October, our Party, the NDC Campaign council was inaugurated in Abuja.
As part of my remarks, I told Nigerians how our richly endowed nation, the giant of Africa, is now the world’s poverty capital. Regrettably, over 140 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor, representing more than 60% of the population.
Corruption remains widespread, while insecurity affects every part of our country. Unemployment and inequality are at record levels, and Nigerians face severe and avoidable hardship. Even with the removal of the fuel subsidy and reckless borrowing, with a debt of over ₦165 trillion, there has been little or no corresponding increase in productivity.
In the last three years, President Tinubu has foisted on Nigeria a reign of corruption and duplicity, resulting in extreme poverty. Today, President Tinubu has made history as the leader who has created the largest number of poor people in the world. This year, he has made about 16 million Nigerians extremely poor.
Just last Saturday, President Tinubu, while launching his re-election campaign in Kaduna, blamed past and opposition leaders for the hunger and poverty that have ravaged Nigerians.
What is clear is that President Tinubu does not have the competence, the capacity, the character, compassion or the commitment to solve the problems he created. He lacks the energy and the resolve to get Nigeria out of the current worsening crisis.
Under President Tinubu, despite his promise to fix electricity, Nigeria now has the lowest consumption of electricity. Without reliable power, businesses cannot expand efficiently, hospitals cannot provide dependable services, schools struggle to operate effectively, and households face additional financial burdens.
We will pursue an electricity reform programme focused on reliability, affordability, investment, and accountability.
We will work with relevant federal and state institutions, regulators, operators, and investors to address the weaknesses affecting generation, transmission, and distribution.
Under President Tinubu, Nigeria is more divided than ever, more terrorised than ever and more insecure than ever.
Under President Tinubu, Nigeria has fallen into a crisis of values, such that our budgets are no longer credible and our laws are forged. Nothing is sacred. Nothing is spared from degradation, not budgets, not laws, not institutions.
From our engagements with Nigerians across the country and all segments of society, the message is clear: Nigerians want and deserve a better, more productive nation, one in which good governance is visible, firmly established, effectively practised and embraced as part of our national culture.
I, Peter Obi, with my very dear elder brother, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, implore and beckon all of you, committed members of our great party, the NDC, and all Nigerians, to join us in this crusade of rebuilding our dear and most endowed nation, Nigeria.
Today, we begin a renewed journey towards a New Nigeria, united by shared purpose, founded on fairness, justice and equity, and committed to productivity, inclusion and development.
We envision a nation where government prioritises the security and welfare of its people, good governance prevails, and public officials remain accountable.
It will be a law-abiding society of healthy, skilled and educated citizens, where every child attends school and learns to read and write.
No Nigerian should live in a displaced-persons camp, and corruption must no longer weaken our institutions or the fabric of our nation.
A New Nigeria is our vision. A New Nigeria is our mission.
Corruption today has become more pervasive under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC-led government. No state institution has been spared, and since 2023, its effects have spread throughout national life.
I received with profound sorrow the news of the passing of our dearest mother, Prof. Kamene Okonjo, beloved mother of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and revered matriarch of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.
Mama lived a remarkable life of service, dignity, wisdom, and devotion to her family, community, and humanity. Her passing is a great loss, not only to the Okonjo family and the people of Ogwashi-Uku, but to all who were privileged to know and draw inspiration from her life.
At this difficult moment, I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala @NOIweala , the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, His Royal Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II, the entire Okonjo family, the people of Ogwashi-Uku, and all of us who mourn this great matriarch.
May Almighty God grant the family the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss, and may He grant our dearest mother, Prof. Kamene Okonjo, eternal rest. -PO
Aren’t Nigerians tired of accidental discharge

What looks like murder is tagged accidental discharge
The penalty for accidental discharge should be greater than murder then watch how the story change
You can’t take the mere words of a officer that weed was found on him, they have to be a video documented evidence, I mean, officers have threaten to shoot almost every Nigerian and they plant a gun and make it seem like a shootout

LASEMA CONTAINS CNG VEHICLE FIRE AT OBADORE BRIDGE, CLEARS MULTIPLE TRUCK INCIDENTS ACROSS LAGOS
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) wishes to inform the public of its prompt emergency interventions across the State in the last 24 hours, with particular reference to a car fire incident along the LASU-Igando corridor.
At about 11:30pm on 23rd October, 2026, the Agency received a distress call regarding a car on fire at Obadore Bridge inward Igando, along LASU-Igando Road. The Beta Response Team from Igando Base was immediately activated and deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team observed a CNG-powered car with an unknown registration number fully engulfed in flames. The immediate cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of reporting.
The Agency’s Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, swiftly commenced fire suppression operations and successfully extinguished the inferno. Fortunately, no loss of life was recorded, although the vehicle was completely burnt beyond recognition.
During the fire suppression operation, a secondary incident occurred when a Mercedes-Benz saloon car with registration number AAA 662 KU rammed into the Fire Truck from behind. The situation was immediately managed by emergency responders without any casualties recorded.
The Lagos State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, assures residents that the safety of lives and property remains paramount. The Government continues to strengthen emergency response capacity across all corridors and advises motorists, especially operators of CNG-powered vehicles, to ensure regular safety checks and strict adherence to safety regulations.
In other operations, the Agency also responded to a fallen container incident at Ketu Ejirin, Itokin Road, Epe. Preliminary investigation revealed that an articulated truck conveying a 40ft container with registration number KSF-658 YN overturned around midnight while the driver allegedly attempted to evade payment of tickets to local touts by driving against traffic to avoid the roundabout, obstructing about forty per cent of the carriageway. Three adult males, comprising two local touts and the motor boy, sustained injuries and were taken to Epe General Hospital before the arrival of the LRT. With the support of LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force and a private crane, the container was successfully recovered and loaded onto another flatbed truck, and the road has been cleared and reopened to traffic.
The Agency also responded to a serious truck accident at Otto Wharf, Mile 2, where a truck conveying a 40ft container fell sideways on two victims, a mother and child, following a mechanical fault. The victims were unfortunately confirmed deceased while trapped underneath the container. Collaborative rescue efforts commenced with LASEMA Eagle Response Team, LASTMA and Lagos State Fire Service. However, due to the volatile nature of the environment, the LRT had to tactically withdraw from the scene for safety reasons.
Similarly, in the early hours of today, 24th October, 2026, the Cobra Response Team from Onipanu responded to a truck accident at Ijora Olopa where a truck conveying double 20ft containers rammed into a parked truck loaded with plywood due to reckless driving and overspeeding. Fortunately, no loss of life was recorded. Recovery efforts are ongoing in collaboration with LASTMA and the Nigeria Police.
The Lagos State Government commiserates with affected families and reiterates its commitment to ensuring rapid emergency response across the State. Residents are enjoined to continue to report all emergencies through the toll-free lines 767 and 112.

Nobody spoke on who attacked first
It’s not right if the man had attacked first, same way it’s not right for the women too
He should only restrain her if she chooses not to pay and call the authorities
But if as a woman you made the first move to attack, he’s only defending himself
Those other women that got involved are liable, that’s a separate case all together and the man can sue for assault
“Why you go beat woman” defend yourself, There’s no law saying otherwise and most woman use that as leverage to attack men because street made an “un-gazetted” law
